The perspective of the picture is looking at the points of 6 graphite and 1 charcoal sketch pencils, stacked atop one another to form a trapezoid-esque shape. The bare wood of the sharpened part of the pencils is highly noticeable, wedged between the darkness of their material and their black painted wooden lengths. They are balanced on the mostly out of focus cover of a sketchbook and a tan rectangular eraser is leaning against one side, across the pencils at approximately a 45 degree angle. They are set against a blue background. The entire picture is washed (color saturation altered) out.

The sword cuts deep, A swift and final blow, But its dominion is fleeting, Born of conflict. The pen(cil), though humble, Wields a different power. It quietly shapes the future, Drafting law and notarizing death, But with a flourish, Coaxing vibrant worlds to life. From intricate sketches To sweeping murals, It creates art that stirs the soul And transcends time, Bringing joy and love, Where blades only seek to end it.

My weapon of choice.

A solitary milk thistle flower. It is a pinkish purple, on a spiky green stalk. The blurred background is leafy green vegetation against shadowy trees. The sun shines through the trees and just above the top left of the flower. An issue with the camera lens has caused bubble like bokeh in some areas where the sun filters through.

Carduus nutans L.,
Nodding thistle.
Imported from southern Europe.
In the early 1900s.
Prettily planted in gardens,
Now out of control.
A noxious weed,
Choking out native plants.
The invasive species,
To be destroyed when found.

Took quite a few pictures today and will hopefully get most edited this evening if I don’t ADHD into something else. Like…

From heart-shaped curves to edges fine,
These colors gloriously combine,
Emerald, rose, and purest white,
A caladium’s captivating light.

A fuzzy brown caterpillar of some sort on the very tip of a vibrant green Christmas tree from Pumpkins & Pines in Pleasant Hill, MO.

Was friend shaped, so I left him and his Christmas tree alone.

I really need to remember to post pics over here more frequently. It’s not like there’s a lack of material.

Pic of a bonefish coleus. The centers of the leaves are fuschia with yellow-green splotches toward the tips. Pencil thin leaves with vibrant green and creamy yellowish white stripes surround it. Tiny purple wild violets are growing in the same area and a few can be seen peeking through the coleus’ leaves.

A little friend I met on my walk today.

A spider of unknown type is feasting on an unknown bug caught in the spider’s web. The picture was taken at dusk, as the sky was fading into blues and golds. The spider, his food, and web are all in silhouette. A roof and a power pole with power lines is visible in the background.

A hungry spider for scary season.

A giant white and orange shuttlecock is upright in a lush green lawn with a backdrop of purple budded trees (unknown type, possibly redbuds) in springtime. It is a permanent art installation outside of the Nelson Atkins Museum in KCMO.
