A Phreaknic convention badge. It’s a 3d printed case designed to look like an old pager built around a repurposed electronic price tag.
Got this one this weekend at Phreaknic in Nashville. It’s not the most technically impressive badge ever made, but it’s made out of recycled electronic price tags. I think that’s the first one I’ve ever seen built out of repurposed parts. They should have a talk about it up on YouTube soonish.

Not sure if you’ve ever used a Yoto player, but if you could get a show on there that would be really neat. I know my kid would be really interested.

Field days are a lot of fun, and while I’ve heard some bad stories, all the local clubs I’ve ever interacted with have been great.

The difficult thing about long range radio is that it’s not something you can just “have”. Unless the people on both ends are willing to invest significant time into training, then even the best radio is just a boat anchor.

A cute cartoon kitty typing with its paws on a laptop keyboard.
Me when I get back to my nice ergo mechanical keyboard, after having to use the laptop keyboard for two weeks while visiting family.

Another fun thing is to have friends and relatives that you don’t see that often record stories. We’ve got cards for each of the grandparents so they can have a bedtime story from grandma whenever they want.

Disheartening to live in an America where even CEOs now have to live with the same fear of being shot and killed we used to reserve only for schoolchildren.

Love how with American health care, I need a ninety minute power-point presentation and a complex spreadsheet each year to teach me how to get care without getting financially ruined.

A woman holding a lawn leveler rake, but holding it like someone photo shopped out a guitar. She's wearing headphones and seems to be playing air guitar on the rake.
This is a very strange image to use when you're trying to sell a lawn leveling rake Home Depot.

I’m heading to Seattle for the first time, on the first flight I’ve taken since COVID. Annoyed that my TSA Pre expired last month, but pleasantly surprised that you don’t have to take electronics out anymore for the scanners.

Yep! That’s actually the old YMCA, I worked out there when I lived downtown before the converted it.
Since you’ll be downtown I’ll also point out the National Blues Museum and Havana’s, which is an amazing Cuban restaurant.

City Museum is cool as hell, hard to describe though it's not really a museum.
Forest park has a great zoo, history museum, and art museum, all free.
For food, if you're into BBQ Pappy's and Bogart's are the two standards. Balkan Treat Box and Lona's Lil Eats are two of my other favorites.

‘Corn Sweat’ and Climate Change Bring Sweltering Weather to the Midwest
A heat wave is sending temperatures soaring in the Midwest, and “corn sweat” is pushing humidity sky-high
I've lived in the Midwest almost all of my forty years on this planet and I've never heard of "Corn Sweat" before. I feel like this is a giant practical joke being played on me personally because I've seen like ten articles this week alone on it.

Everyone is comparing this to the DS9 episode Hard Time when they should be comparing it to the VOY episode Ex Post Facto, which is a much closer match to what this startup is pitching. I won’t take this Voyager erasure!

They’re well liked here in STL (their headquarters) as well. When one of owners started the new MLS team they located the offices and practice facilities in the city, which means they pay city income taxes. All the other sports teams here are technically outside the city for the tax break.
