Eric and associates

@ericg78.bsky.social

I like languages, history, dogs (especially my lad Eric), films and books. I used to believe (and work) in politics. I support Sunderland and Celtic.

Asterix na nGallach (Asterix the Gaul) Asterix the Gaul When Roman Centurion Crismus Bonus finds out about Getafixโ€™s magic potion, he kidnaps the druid to force him to reveal the recipe. So Asterix joins his friend in captivity and togethe...

These are brilliant. I'm reading this now. Although sceptical about the real value of this, I always read this when I'm trying to learn a new language, through habit. And because almost no-one was made less happy by reading an Asterix book.

I agree on the funding. But if the purpose was intimidatory, perhaps the money was not wasted.

I particularly enjoyed the idea of the Cabinet Office investigating a politician running the Cabinet Office.

- Did you do anything wrong, Minister?
- No.
- Ok, thank you.

Investigation ends.

Your first sentence notably absent from the "decent man" narratives peddling by limp, lying (or daft) fuckers.

Taxi for Keith, and take your daft quiff with you, you prat!

Part 3 of bookshops which we have in common: www.tomblandbookshop.co.uk Excellent Folio Society section here, welcoming owners. Stairs slightly exciting for me, but narrow enough to prevent death. You must have been here?

@alexjenkinspoet.bsky.social I was thinking about bookshops. This is Scoob-like, maybe bigger? I hope it's website is just down and it remains open. You should go, if you haven't been, it's in Felixstowe: www.google.com/maps/place/T...

I once spent 4 hours in there, tranfixed, as a pizza oven was winched into place in the San Mareano restaurant opposite. Skill, finesse, professionalism, and their opposite, opposite.

I go to Skoob, and double back to the Lord John Russell pub. There I sit, a shabby old man, drinking on my own, in the day time, reflecting how different I am to the shabby old men drinking on their own, in the day time.

Mandelson was mentoring McSweeney
From the aftermath of the Hartlepool by-election to everything that followed - from the reshuffles and internal feuds to the candidate selections and Downing Street manoeuvrings - Mandelson has been there, available to advise the Starmer operation. As one person who worked with McSweeney in opposition puts it,
"Morgan wouldn't breathe without consulting
Mandelson first." "They talked all the time," observes another. Mandelson was a frequent visitor at McSweeney's home in rural Scotland.
The once-close pair have not seen each other since Mandelson's sacking, according to two people familiar with the matter, and are no longer in regular contact.

Betfair haven't even put up the "what month does WW3 start to cover up the noncing" market yet. February would be may be 1.2 - 1.4 perhaps?

(Weird world when making money from killing people is considered laudable, but speculating on it's timing is offensive).
