That machine over there that says P-E-P-S-I on it? That's a coke machine.
In that era I even had to include Crystal Pepsi as a coke.

Oh I read so many of those. That darn Bugs Meany!

Soda is acceptable, pop clearly isn't. But saying "It's a coke" was a nice way to bring them altogether as their brains just really locked up over the idea that "coke" was a word for soda/pop.

Dragon's Lair came out, and the age of video games you could play for a long time on a single quarter died.
Although Gauntlet was probably the real nail in that coffin.

I went to college in Ohio when it was basically on the border of the pop/soda divides. The basic cultural argument was always soda v pop.
I spent a lot of time explaining very patiently that it's called a coke.

I'm actually all for getting rid of the penny, but not without proper planning.
And not for the "pennies cost more than 1 cent to make" garbage, that's a fool's excuse - we don't mint pennies to make a profit. Phones cost more than $50 but you can still use them to buy a coffee.

Oh, don't worry. There's absolutely no planning whatsoever in how this will work.
Expect only cash transactions to be impacted, and every retailer will handle it however they want, because there's no guidance on what to do, it's just going to be hard to get pennies.

Maybe none of it, pretty sure I've seen that same style on the internet for literally decades.
I haven't experimented with getting an LLM to do such annoyances so who knows what it's capable of, but "I just took down one of the masters" is pretty classic internet jagoff.

Wow, those posts have huge "You should all be in awe of how much smarter I am than you" vibes. Overall it's a textbook example of what I don't want in my social media. Thanks, block button.

Certain classes of users need more transparency for when they are banned for the community to understand. The difficultly is defining "certain classes" but this response doesn't even begin any discussion towards improving any of that.

Most of that is just "this is why we don't ban bad things as fast as you'd like" and very very little of it addresses "this is why bans that people don't agree with happen" (pretty much only the bit about "posting kill yourself" being looked at in a vacuum).
It's not a response at all.

Last year when they were visible all the way down to Texas, I couldn't see it with the naked eye up here. Tonight for the first time, I could see it while we were driving down the road, it was amazing.
By the time I got home I couldn't make it out anymore without a camera.

I never really learned the word until as an adult, and it never entered my vocabulary. Although when my kid was young, I kept a pile of bedding on the floor by my bed for when he woke up in the middle of the night and would fall back asleep in our room. Calling it a pallet would have been right.

Ads are just worse nowadays. The price we pay for streaming services that can be paid for without ads, I suppose. Everything is trying to get engagement, but Woodsy the Owl just wanted you to put your trash in the trash can.

Goes with the theory of "take the heat off the other ~20 senators who wanted to cave but also want to win reelection"
I do not have the political insider insight to know how much this theory has legs here

The replica guns dumbassery was embarrassing, and also showed there's no adults left in the room who the fools in charge will listen to.

The US is going to have burned all kinds of diplomatic bridges for decades, because at any moment we are apparently willing to put complete tools in charge

When I was a kid we played "seatbelt game" every time we got in the car - basically a race to get your seltbelt on. It's super weird not to wear one now. The automated seatbelts (an alternative to air bags) startled this guy and he had his knife out before he was sure it wasn't going to kill him

09.11.2025 18:01 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Seat belt laws? I saw someone pull a knife the first time he sat in a car with an automatic seatbelt. (He did not actually cut the belt but he was a bit on edge)

I'm actually surprised, although I left a couple years ago. The factory was in full production at that time, but I still saw VERY few Cybertrucks and almost never more than 1 a day. Not counting seeing the whole lot full when driving by the factory, of course. I guess they have grown more prevalent.

The terms were "bodily harm" and "injury" and legally in a lot of jurisdictions, "injury" doesn't generally have to mean physical injury (and that's important that it doesn't). In this case the terms apparently aren't well defined, the lawyers argued a LOT about it when the jury asked.

They would have had a damn hard time proving it came from the sandwich toss and wasn't placed there as a prank from a fellow officer, especially given the other prank gifts he had to admit to getting.

Regardless, the ongoing message we're seeing across courtrooms is that juries, grand juries, and judges simply don't find government witnesses credible. ICE/etc aren't gathering evidence, but victims are. Yet officers are still giving testimony that contradicts video evidence.
No one believes them.

I wish I'd heard if they followed up on his claim there was onion on his car antenna. I don't recall seeing his car in the pictures, where exactly was his car?
I will grant that I did see a video where the sandwich does break open as it hits him and maybe 3-4 little strands pop out.

EVERY time. And I quit playing Magic well over a decade ago (more like 2 decades at this point)

I have very big "Why should I change my name, she's the one who sucks" feelings about this.

07.11.2025 18:45 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think they legitimately convinced the jury that the standard in DC for assault was not met - it seems DC requires a capability of causing injury for an action to be assault, and they successfully argued that the sandwich could not cause physical or other injury.

Oh good, the people cold contacting me who "want to write my story" will now also include that they can publish it in 817 languages for a slight upcharge.
I assume this is only for people who don't care about the content of the book they are selling.

...there's only 2 gifts. There's 3 people.
Maybe the saxophone is the prince's gift? I think he just doesn't get a gift. Under the rainbow, only the rainbow princesses get gifts. Not even the wicked snow queen and her "star lantern with handle" get a present.
The rainbow princesses might be evil.
