I'm actually impressed someone could be wrong in that many ways in just 9 words.

*looks closer* This has only been tracking for the last 24 hours of posts? THAT explains a lot.

adverseness, bullsnake, bullsnakes. I do love a good internet effort.

On the cheap, too, most people are having to pay a few million bucks for one of those.

For years I have consoled myself with the fact that Abbott, although he is Governor, lives in a city, and that city passes laws he doesn't like and he still has to follow them. And he so clearly hates that with a fire that scorches his soul, and I love that for him.

I do kinda buy the story that he was standing around looking like an easy mark and some teens walked up and said "Gimme your car, nerd" and he maybe tried to throw a punch and some kid punched him in the nose and he bled like crazy

I got into genealogy a bit and found my nth grandfather left the Schleswig-Holstein region right when Germany was happening, and this is why he kept changing the name of what country he was from every 10 years on the census. His hometown is in Denmark now.

That just nails it. You could have told me this was Grand Theft Auto: Punching Down, a 2D fighter released between GTA: Vice City and San Andreas that didn't do very well and most people forgot. The controls were sluggish and Zsadist was seriously broken.

I do wish the headline was a bit more clear this is not "people with a net worth of over $1Million" which is not really "clearly has tax people" money, but "people making $1Million/year income" which means if they don't have tax people, they don't care how much they pay in taxes.

They're gutting NASA now, so I'd think the most likely thing is this project goes nowhere. But if it gets legs, I'm not sure we'll have the institutional structure in place anymore to get this done.

I no longer have faith in item 3. NASA has been subjected to loyalty tests before, but in the past I feel like the requirements were both loyalty and competence. This administration seems not to care about competence and will just fire people until they get the answer they want - which might blow up

I don't know for certain but I strongly suspect trans women are also underrepresented in chess, so they would benefit by inclusion into women's events (since they're women). The rationale for excluding them is basically that the leaders of FIDE don't like trans people.

I don't think I blame the elo style ratings as much as I do the absolutely rampant misogyny, harassment, and sexual abuse in chess at all levels. Whatever the reason, it's clear women are vastly underrepresented in chess outside maybe the youngest scholastic leagues.

Meh the argument presupposes games aren't art and then claims games have something non-game art doesn't. So what? Songs have a beginning, middle, and end, and so do movies, and novels, but paintings don't. Are paintings not art?

Whoa, an original meaning "Begging the question" situation.

We didn't even really have a GT program until my junior year and I wasn't remotely considered for it because standardized tests are my jam, and for some reason I had REALLY tolerant teachers in high school.
This post did have me check in on my wife, she's good thanks.

Lost 3 my junior year. The memorial for the kids no longer with us at the end of our senior year was for the kids who drunkenly drove their car into a tree at 1 in the morning; those 3 I knew were not mentioned at all.

Yeah but the "I'm going home to sleep with my wife!" Isn't the fun gotcha line its played as. "I'm a plant" "I thought they called your kind a fruit" i can still smirk at.
I learned to love the home version of "heres all 3 endings at once" for the extra zany. More Tim Curry is always better

Most 80s teen hits aged very, very badly. I'm happy to just remember the good bits and never watch them again.
I do still love Gremlins, and Goonies, but there is no reason for anyone else to like them.

I love Clue, although the Mr Green homophobia lines i could do without. Watched it multiple times in the theater to see more than one ending.

On the other hand, one of my main reasons for being on bluesky is to follow authors I enjoy, and as I'm also trying to get myself into reading more again - it's working, and I'm almost exclusively picking up books from authors I'm following.
More "brand recognition" than specific book promotion.

Awareness ABSOLUTELY does matter! But it may not move the needle as much as getting introduced to something I might otherwise not ever realize I should be interested in.

As a reader, this tracks. An author I already know and respect their writing tells me about some other author I'm not familiar with, I'm inclined to check it out due to the review.
That same author talks about their new book, I may very well already have plans to get it and it's just awareness.

I do miss browsing the bookstore shelves for a book, but that's not really how I pick books to read anymore anyway. If I want that vibe, I can cruise the library and grab a book that way and then not have to store it - storage of books became an actual problem, I had somewhere north of 700 books

I used to prefer physical books, and when I did I got paperbacks. I grew up reading that form factor and I'm just used to it; also I could fit more of them on shelves.
My kids got older and preferred reading on screens, and I usually read while traveling so ebooks became the norm.

Halt! Kommen Sie! Ausweis.

I knew playing Castle Wolfenstein games would prepare me for the real world.

Yeah the pitch was basically "Edison sucks, and also we're a computer tech company so we should be remembering important people in computing history"

When my company built out some new offices, my boss convinced them the Thomas Edison meeting room should be named the Ada Lovelace meeting room
It ain't much but it's something

Oh I'm the Muppets Weirdo in the relationship, but my wife is an enabler and mostly likes me because I'm the right kind of weirdo for her.

I would visit my grandmother in Oakland in August, and nearly every time she'd say "Oh you came at the worst time, it's a heat wave" and I'd remind her I was coming from Houston and it was a solid 10-15 degrees cooler (and infinitely colder at night)
So yeah the US can just fight ourselves on this
