That’s a great way to put it. Horror can be an amazing way to storytell about real-life dark stuff like child abuse and even show people unfamiliar with it what it’s like, but it takes some care and deliberation to do it well and in a way that doesn’t freak out the people the story’s about.

Same! There was nothing in that scene that had to be *that* graphic to make the points the filmmakers wanted to make. Maybe if I didn’t have PTSD I’d feel differently? But for me it was jarring and brutal in a way that didn’t add to the film (which I overall really liked!)

I had to pause the movie and take half an hour to recuperate before continuing on after that scene.
