Also have zero knowledge myself of BA ship construction, I'm afraid, but this is where I'd probably start looking for more info! www.sidestone.com/books/seafar... (open access)

Thanks Theo! Yeah thought maybe someone with more knowledge might have a different suggestion than the usual handbooks but can recommend those as a starting point and Beyond Thalassocracies if feeling extremely keen!

#AncientBluesky 🏺 people who know more about the Bronze Age Cyclades than me - what would you recommend for an interested first-year undergrad to read by way of an introduction? (To the archaeology in general and/or specifically to issues of identity and Minoan/Mycenaean contacts)

But the one I'm currently using for the first time (McKeown) doesn't seem to believe in composing anything longer than a sentence. So all the reading exercises are "work out the answers to these comprehension questions despite not knowing any of the grammar or vocab yet"...

I have ended up adapting this passage to use a few more words my students already know, and written an extension assignment to translate into Latin a happier alternative ending for queen Dido in which she is delighted to get rid of Aeneas and sails off to be a pirate. Had to get pirates in somehow πŸ˜„

Call for help from Latin teachers: does anyone know a textbook w/ passages using only 1st decl. nouns and pres and/or impf verbs?? Otherwise I'm going to have to start writing silly stories featuring a cast of women, girls, daughters, farmers, poets & pirates...

Yeah, we don't have huge amounts to give (could never fund a project!) so small grants lets us at least help with v specific "I need to pay conference fees/image publication costs/childcare while I attend an event/etc" type needs (list definitely not exhaustive!)

(You have to be a WCC member but if you aren't already you can still apply and we just take the membership fee out of the grant. Which for students/un- and under-employed researchers is only Β£5)

This is *extremely* small, but people working in ancient history (broadly conceived, and not just classical) would be eligible for the Women's Classical Committee's small grants scheme (up to Β£150).

Search LibGen, the Pirated-Books Database That Meta Used to Train AI Millions of books and scientific papers are captured in the collection’s current iteration.

One of the pirated material sources Anthropic AI trained on is LibGen, the other database is PiLiMi (can't found a search for). So, if you're an author, submiting your info to the lawyers (prev tweet) is the best way to kill genAI like Anthropic.
