There were many reasons why Tom, @garethwatkins.bsky.social and I wanted to tell the C18 story:

1. It's strangely relevant, even 30 years later;
2. It contains a serious message about the limitations of a politics based solely on violence;
3. It's gets very weird and funny when the wizard shows up.

It would be easy (and convenient) to portray this saga as our politicians being taken for a ride by a conniving billionaire. It would be more uncomfortable to confront the reality: that Epstein got as far as he did because these people share a political-economic vision and speak the same language.
