Thrilled to finally be able to share that the Caveney lab has been awarded its first CIHR Project grant. πŸ₯³ The last year and a bit since starting the lab has been a complete whirlwind, but successes like this make it all worth it!

After a 23.5% across the board budget reduction too. If only there were a giant pool of recent money that could have supported this call… πŸ˜ͺ

13.5% is the last success rate at CIRH. The government is slowly tanking the Canadian research system.

Don’t forget to vaccinate boys. Cervical cancer isn’t the only HPV driven cancer and unvaccinated boys can transmit to others who are unvaccinated.

It should go without saying that the disclosure of personal demographic information that was promised confidentiality to a government committee by the Tri-Council would be the most fundamental breach of ethics and pose a genuine danger to the safety of Canadian researchers.

I feel some responsibility, as we develop the software. But helical reconstruction is prone to getting stuck in local minima, and unfortunately still requires a lot of self-criticism. The most important one: if you don't see expected features in the map, don't trust it!

In Canada, proposed cuts of 15% across the federal government would have a dramatic effect on already globally decimated research & science.

Join Canada's research & science community and tell PM Mark Carney to preserve the funding promised in 2024.

Important to remember the theoretical size limit is based on assumptions and a model that may or may not be complete. It isn't some indisputable universal truth.

This one is a bit of a departure from the usual and definitely a work in progress!

We found that by using ab initio reconstruction at very high res, in very small steps, we could crack some small structures that had eluded us - e.g. 39kDa iPKAc (EMPIAR-10252), below.
