Any kind of safe autonomous vehicle is going to be extremely easy to trap because it has to default to not doing anything. They should also be excessively cautious about obeying even implied traffic laws. The reported behavior of Tesla doing California stops should have somebody in jail.

The salt circle is the software working correctly. Real road markings are going to be even more fuzzy and distorted than that after any amount of wear, so I would hope that it would obey those kinds of restrictions.
