Finally played through Amnesia: The Dark Descent after a decade on the digital shelf. I was initially surprised at the low percentages for basic plot progression achievements; the first one is a mere 18.5% and the last one (before endgame) is 8.5%. I guess everybody else procrastinated too.

Credit where due: the usual sidewalk preacher next to our protest found some synergy by loudly declaring there is only one king, and it isn't Trump. #NoKings

Should the government censor speech it doesn’t like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the “public interest.”

Who, in your view, should have the power to draw the line between a “lie” and “free speech”? Government officials that want to stay in political power or the people that can hold them accountable ?

President Biden is right. Political satire is one of the oldest and most important forms of free speech. It challenges those in power while using humor to draw more people in to the discussion. That’s why people in influential positions have always targeted it for censorship.

Free speech is the counterweight—it is democracy’s check on government control. That’s why censorship is the authoritarian’s dream. After all, there’s a straight line from the soap box to the ballot box. You retain freedom at both or neither.

While waiting for our train to reach Union Station, the woman next to me asked, unprompted, how I felt about D.C.'s militarization. We then spent a good 10-15 minutes just recounting/lamenting 2025's numerous indignities together. (I generally don't converse with strangers; this was refreshing.)

Screenshot of text. This comic was uploaded very late. Despite the next comic being scheduled for Monday, June 23, it was really released well into the next day. This is one of very few times other than April Fools' comics that Randall was so late. Comic 3107 came out well within its nominal day (Wednesday, and not just by US timezones) such that possibly this comic spent the least time as the "latest" comic of any that (together with its successor) belonged strictly to the default three-a-week comic cycle.

Grateful that nobody is publicly tracking my missed deadlines as trivia.

Crazy to me that, despite not being explicitly advertised as such, Bluesky user likes are somehow MORE public than Twitter's ever were.

“No Kings” is one of the sharpest bits of political branding/rhetoric in a while. Extremely concise and in every headline, historically rooted, specific to the American tradition but also universalist, nails what’s exceptional about Trump in a way that almost all factions in opposition can endorse.

Now that I finally beat Fallout 4, I've been catching up on Mitten Squad challenge videos... which has mostly ended up bumming me out. RIP Paul.

VHS fits here too, but I grew up with a solid tape collection supplemented by trips to Blockbuster and the local library. Meanwhile, our early DVD collection was small and lopsided -- perfect for developing unusual hyperfixations.
