I'm a bit cynical about them, but my kid is being educated in a school system where it is the norm, and I feel like his awareness of and sensitivity to things that I had no idea about can only be net good.

I used to think the flu was like a cold, but then I got it like 20 years ago. It was awful and I've been getting the shot ever since. Like, if you can avoid that in exchange for a bit of arm pain for a day? I don't understand why you wouldn't. They don't even charge you anymore.

My misunderstanding of this headline as something that combined housing with movie theatres really made the rest of the article a disappointment.

I’m just a Canadian, looking at her fellow Canadians, begging them to connect the dots between rising anti immigrant sentiment and what is happening in the states.

the most important thing to remember when you see eugenicists who don’t believe that autistic people should exist rambling about β€œthe autism epidemic” is not that they’re wrong about the β€œcause” (although they are absolutely wrong about it); it’s that they are eugenicists

Honestly, I assumed it was herbal tea and thought it sounded delightful.

Anyway. Get a library card. Cancel things you know no longer serves your world view, really do it and subscribe to newsletters you trust. I feel for this world. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be.

Trans rights are not the rights of a tiny minority, trans rights are everyone’s rights to self-determination, control of our bodies, and a society where opportunity and aesthetics are not restricted by sex assigned at birth

You should support and defend trans people because trans people are people

We do not want to live in a society where every single person has become totally numb to witnessing horrifying violence.

Claiming that everyone needs to β€œtoughen up” by exposing themselves to horrifically violent imagery is *simply doing fascism’s work for it.*

Basic black Tetley Orange Pekoe with milk in the morning. In the evenings, I have a lovely ginger/mint/fennel blend that President's Choice makes called "Feeling Soothed."

In case anyone is looking for a non-JKR fantasy series for their kids, I very much recommend the Nevermoor series by Jessica Townsend. It's not complete yet (book 4 of 9 just came out), but it's a fun read.

Polarization And Strife We’ve never been less polarized as a country than we are right now. I’ll explain.

Yes, and what do *we* mean when *we* say β€œwe’ve never been so polarized,” anyway?

What if instead we said β€œIt’s been a long time since the reality of injustice has been made so unavoidably present to otherwise comfortable people”?

I, personally, find the Dog Man books really annoying. I read the first one to my kid when he was 5 and didn't feel like reading it again. He taught himself to read so he could read them. If he reads stuff with some dodgy ideas, we will talk about them, but we don't put limits on the books.

Perhaps if we just started treating brown and asian people with the respect they deserve and focus globally on the #1 enemy which is climate change, and fight it, so many people would not have to die? Just a thought.

Saw Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat for the first time this weekend at Metro Theatre in Vancouver. Hilarious. Read the synopsis in advance to prepare and thought, wow the brothers are a bit much. Watched the show and was like, oh yes, I see now. I would have thrown him in a pit as well.

I mean, I think it's legit to rail against the need to strategic vote while still doing it. It's a pretty demoralizing thing to have to do, especially when some of us recall being promised that we would never have to again.
