a bunch of the commentariat saw libs and leftists joining hands to wish death on the jingo gestapo and were like, we gotta lock in on wrecking and tailism before the wine moms start bringing howard zinn to book club

thank god this isn't the nazi website and is instead the libs defending nazi shit as some purity testing the youthful folly of boys being boys and also there is an actual nazi population growing because they thrive in conditions where being impolite and not blindly trusting them is considered rude

they made them illegal like a month ago, and like, regardless of whether you think that's a good policy or not, it'd be pretty dumb to just start arresting anyone who owns smth that was entirely legal to own without some way for them safely dispose of it. like, the gov paid ppl for guns in the 90s

racists who like to pretend melbourne is some mad max type den of crime love making fun of the machete amnesty in melbourne so much that you'd be mistaken for thinking that they're pro machete

im sure amazon has their own SLAs and penalties and engineering team too. most service providers have specific contracts for major clients and they are likely prioritised over the public facing services.
amazon shops aren't rly critical infrastructure tho

if you're self hosting but everyone else is on a cloud service that's down, you're probably still not gonna be able to do much.
i think the problems with monopolies and centralised private control have more to do with their uptime, personally

20.10.2025 17:01 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

like, amazon isnt evil because economies of scale aren't faultless.
at least ppl talking abt risks of centralised provision gesture at the actual problem, but even then i think a business prefers everyone to be down with them than being the only one. just from my experience doing b2b support stuff

20.10.2025 16:57 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

i think amazon is fundamentally evil, but I don't see much point in acting like the very rare event of downtime means cloud services are less reliable than self hosting. self hosting is more error prone and less secure and the cost of maintenance is much higher than a subscription fee

20.10.2025 16:51 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

if it's an anti-trust argument, sure, i agree. but you're never gonna win an argument against monopolistic practices on the basis of claiming economies of scale don't exist simply because they're not flawless.
it's like saying cloudflare is less secure when a single security vulnerability is found.

i dont rly see how you're gonna end up with less downtime or overhead by self hosting. average CTO has done the math and accounted for this. i like and prefer self hosted solutions, but it's not like downtime is assumed to never happen in either case

im all for dunking on amazon, but this is kinda silly. most businesses don't even have an in company sys admin. am i missing smth?

i think it should be lockdowns that drove them mad

19.10.2025 15:09 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

im sure i just don't understand the strange ways american political systems work, but do find it super weird how the jingo cops were created in 2016 then gone for 4 years and then re-established again in 2020.

19.10.2025 14:07 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

ah, but have you considered that leftists only hold the opinions i now agree with because they were all cynical edgelords trying to undermine me, while my side now agreeing with the things they got tear gassed for by no one in particular is because of sensible liberal pragmatism

19.10.2025 14:00 β€” πŸ‘ 59    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

not gonna QT that one post of "the left is seething about how normies are out and against ICE" but i will say that to any extent this exists it's largely from well earned resentment from libs scolding about how abolish ICE was stupid and irresponsible. getting yelled at for being right 'too early'

19.10.2025 13:43 β€” πŸ‘ 1131    πŸ” 170    πŸ’¬ 10    πŸ“Œ 9

your caricature is so out of date it could vote

19.10.2025 13:44 β€” πŸ‘ 17    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

grrr, i hate it when those darn leftists agree with me and we're all working together

19.10.2025 13:42 β€” πŸ‘ 11    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

especially dunking on them for... agreeing and sharing the same views. like, what?

19.10.2025 13:42 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

i do feel pretty confident that the people marching were generally on the same page and happily working together, which is why im stating the organisers.
and i think the fact that such collaboration was happening is an indictment of those taking it as an opportunity to dunk om leftists for it

19.10.2025 13:39 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

i do think if you are gonna jerk eachother off like that, you should maybe update your stereotypes. like, I don't believe for a second you've seen a single person wearing a che guevara shirt in the last decade

19.10.2025 13:29 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

oh weird, i had a look and just found a huge circle jerk about how awful leftists are. didn't realise trump was a millennial leftist

19.10.2025 13:26 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

presumably there are some replies below that post showing epic winemoms supporting palestine and im gonna get extremely owned

19.10.2025 13:23 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

that's cool. how did the organisers respond to signs mentioning palestine and requests to have palestinian speakers

19.10.2025 13:21 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

well of course. obvious really.

i like the theory that life is really just an almost inevitable result of thermodynamics and chemistry. that if you have enough water, carbon, energy, and time, the emergence of self replicating molecules is almost inevitable

19.10.2025 12:03 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

but, it does have lots of evidence that, at some point in the past, id did have an active mantle, tectonics, magnetic shielding from cosmic rays, liquid surface water, all the seeds of life. good chance it did, and maybe still does in some limited form, have life
