I hope some of you actually take some joy in these pathetic images of this ridiculous and now boring military parade. It's a fiasco and everyone gets to point and laugh. More hard days ahead but for today enjoy.

Not Our Sister: Kristi Noem as an Enemy Feminist? By Peyton Bond This piece gestated as a review of Sophie Lewis’s Enemy Feminisms, though I see now it has become something a little different. The book so struck me that I quickly joined the dialog…

I used Sophie Lewis’s β€˜enemy feminisms’ framing to try to situate her in line with other historical fascist women here (with the help of some of your writing, love your work): blindfieldjournal.com/2025/06/04/n...

The true nihilists of our age are not those who abandon institutions, fight police, & don't vote, but those who remain invested in a society where cruelty, suffering, insecurity, & death are the norm. If any meaning survives it can only be found in the abolition of such a society.

Every time they say β€œwe can’t afford that,” remember: they could afford armored tanks, a dictators birthday parade, and enough tear gas to choke a city. They just don’t want you fed, safe, or alive.

Voting rights don't stop at the prison gate

People Against Prisons Aotearoa spokesperson and UoA criminologist Dr Emmy Rākete said the total voting ban was an β€œattack on democratic principles”.

β€œThe Supreme Court has already ruled that banning prisoners from voting is unlawful. The Government is spitting on the rule of law,” she said. #nzpol

This right here. Spreading "perfect victim" or "innocence" narratives is dangerous and cedes ground on the fact that *all* people deserve dignity, humane treatment, and access to due process. Feeding into perfect victim or innocence narratives isn't just irresponsible messaging, it is copaganda.

Excerpt from the book No More Police by Andrea J. Ritchie and Mariame Kaba: "Defunding police means investing the billions currently poured into policing and the prison-industrial complex into community-based safety strategies: meeting basic needs that include housing, health care, access to care for disabled people, childcare, elder care, a basic guaranteed income, and accessible, sustainable living-wage jobs that enable people to prevent, escape, intervene in, and transform the conditions that make violence possible. It is a process of creating, building, and resourcing tools, skills, relationships, and institutions that will create genuine and lasting safety for all.

Defunding police is neither the beginning nor the end of the story. It is simply a step toward a longer-term abolitionist horizon of dismantling police departments and abolishing policing, the prison-industrial complex (PIC) that requires it, the economic system that produced it, and the social order it fabricates, while rebuilding a society organized around meeting our individual and collective needs, as well as the needs of the planet. The demand to defund is just the basement floor, abolition is the sky we are reaching for."

We have allowed ourselves to believe that it's normal to have 4% of the world's population and 25% of the world's prisoners. We have allowed prisons that violate multiple basic provisions of international humanitarian law. Our prisons are filled with people being literally tortured.
