If Sylv sees this he’s gonna beat up that guy with his β€œrefugees welcome here” sign

whoever runs for president in 2028 on the campaign slogan of "transgender from everybody and windmills all over the place" has my vote tbh

Time… and relative dimension in space?

To me, that is a core part of the anti-trans-rights movement, they are afraid that if people realize that things we take for granted as facts of nature are really just social constructs, then we might start questioning all the other social constructs, like money, value, political power, etc.

You can yell all day about how you think your categories are natural, but that doesn’t make them so. It’s normativity all the way down. Teleology is dead, stop puppeting its corpse around

They then say there’s a pragmatic test for non-natural categories. But their example is electrical engineering (for which iron pyrite is not suitable as a conductor). Unasked and unanswered is the obvious question in response: What if our purpose is collecting shiny rocks?

Also, they seem not to understand baby logic. β€˜Gold’ is a subset of β€˜gold or iron pyrite’. And yet they think the reader will clearly label β€˜beverage’ as akin to gold, with β€˜iced coffee made from Colombian beans’ on the other side.

Shame them publicly for calling this good reasoning.

β€œConsider an analogy [proceeds to talk about something that is definitely not a natural kind]”

So their examples of natural kinds are supposed to be β€˜currency’ and β€˜under 18 years old’. Some people need their PhDs revoked.

I’m still waiting for the Daily Nous commentators who insist these philosophers just have Philosophical Concerns about natural kinds to tell me what fucking theory of natural kinds a Thomist and a Wittgensteinian have in common. Because that’s who signed it!

Every signatory to this needs to be hounded for the rest of their days with their arguments here. Every time you see them at a conference, pester them about this. Oh you didn’t read before signing? Well you signed off on it, tough shit!

Why am I wasting my time getting a PhD, when one thing is patently clear: you don’t need a PhD to be a Doctor

Mr. Chief Justice and may it please the court,

Trans Rights are Human Rights. My colleagues, such as they are, are a bunch of knobs.

Big shot philosopher writing for the Supreme Court: special pleading. Transphobia. Arguments that wouldn’t pass muster in my 100-level philosophy of gender class.

Big shot philosopher writing for a public audience:

Silly view. Literary reference (parenthetical sexist comment). Questionable justification. Self-importance.

Calling peoples' employers in a rage because their tributes to Robert Redford weren't horny enough

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

Debate is a hobby.

It’s not a thing you do to understand another person.

Listening is a thing you do to understand someone.

So @dc.com pulled Red Hood from digital storefronts but you can still buy all of Sandman. The lesson here is that DC doesn't care if you sexually assault women, but don't you dare make fun of a dead fascist.

Three HBCUs have had to lock down their campuses today.

What about THIS political violence?

Where's the condemnation from the right and from the media?

An alarming number of people in positions of power seem to be completely unable to distinguish good from evil as long as the evil is spoken in a reasonable tone of voice by a white man in a suit

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

If you can’t tell the difference between a good faith debate and the cruel sophistry of a bigot, you have no business being governor of a major state, let alone running for president. Maybe take some freshmen level philosophy classes though.

The truth of the matter is that if anyone but Charlie Kirk had been killed at today’s shooting, then Charlie Kirk would be out there right now using the shooting as pretext to deliver arguments designed to make sure that the next shooting would happen, and the next one, and the next, and the next.

β€œCourse content must match course descriptions” ok so fire instructors who ask students how their weekend was, talk about the big game coming up, or do icebreakers like asking students what their favorite movie is
