This @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social video is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The numbers he cites, the strategy and results they produced β€” it’s the future. When have you heard *any* campaign talk about this, ever? (Video split in 2 to fit in Bluesky’s limits)

June treasury data came in today, and Americans paid a record $27B in tariffs & related DHS excise taxes this monthβ€”for an annualized pace of more than $300B/year

The graph of intense pain & suffering keeps getting worse

Planted maybe 30 heads of garlic back in October. Harvested a ton of garlic scapes this past week and made garlic scape pesto this evening. Sooooo good.

I’ve been a Spotify Premium user for probably 10 years. I recently switched to Apple Music and I’m absolutely baffled at the sound quality difference.

Then to read the album was hugely influential to most of the music you listen to. Listening to it: no kidding.

That feeling when you hear a 50 year old album for the first time and it immediately becomes a favorite. How had I never heard of The Modern Lovers?

Absolutely loving this Murderbot series. While there are some differences in how I imagined it from the book series, still a lot of fun!

The Rules Committee meets at 1 AM on Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning to ram through this disastrous bill. Why? Because they don't want you to see them ripping healthcare from millions of Americans.

You do not hold a hearing for a bill at 1 AM unless you're completely ashamed of it.

Also, how do you meaningfully do it in preparation for an exam where 36% is a passing grade? (AP Calculus score cut off for a 3)

In general, I respect standards based grading and whoever has found a way to meaningfully pull it off. However, it doesn’t do enough to acknowledge, for me as a 12th grade teacher at least, the variance of their last 11 years of math education.

I’ve had to acknowledge that this GPA number is incredibly important for my students. Strong GPA and test scores = access. I choose to provide a challenge, teach my content, hopefully allow my students to see themselves as mathematicians, and to also never be a hinderance to their futures

I’ve learned to make my classes live in a realm of: easy to get a B if you show up and do everything. Tough to get an A unless you actually know the material.

Teachers are pressured to pass kids. Failure rates and declining class GPAs are criticized by admin. Result? Kids learn they can show up less and still pass these classes.

Learning calculus is tough enough when you are there every single day. Kids just shoot themselves (and their understandings) in the foot by skipping days or taking state allowed β€œmental health days”. Combine the lack of attendance with a complete unwillingness to come to office hours? Tough spot.

I conceptually agree with the 50% floor on grades. An F is an F AND we want students to have opportunities to learn from their mistakes. However students learning that they don’t need to show up to pass is not the correct message. Simply learning to show up is an incredibly important life skill.

Saw this Chalkbeat article a few days ago and saw it again in the Sun Times this morning. The attendance differences between now and 2019 (prepandemic) are stark. I have so many more kiddos with significant attendance problems.

Creating healthy opportunities to be empathetic in situations: helping, feeding, and healing a snarling wolf instead of just being murder hobos.

In general, this has been good for roleplaying tough situations with my kids. The party was at a tavern and ordering pizzas. I decided in the moment that the waiter had never heard of pineapple before. This turned into a whole irl tantrum. Good to process through emotions and reasonable responses.

Session 2 of trying to DM a kids D&D campaign with the twins. Always reminded of how important it is to have actively engaged participants in any campaign. A fun session is like improv. Participants always need to be ready with a β€œyes and” otherwise things can stall out.
