So I just read Aristophanes /The Clouds/ and it was a banger, but I really struggle to think how its .. useful perspective could be used in today’s media environment

Rough summary of the French clip: • He was fishing on the Canadian side of the border, he's fished this lake for 40 years • The USCG ship pulls up and says "turn off your engine", he complies. • USCG says "you're on the American side", they start getting aggressive, yelling orders, talking about how they're going to impound his boat. • He says he knows this lake and he's not on the US side but, hey, if you guys want to interrogate me, we can do it back on shore, not out here in the open water • The USCG ship blocks his path back to the north, and begin pushing him backwards southward, toward the US side. The man believes they were trying to push him to the border so they could justify the arrest. • It seems he tries to get around their boat to go back north. At some point their boats collide and the much larger USCG boat capsizes his fishing boat. He says he nearly drowned. As he was in the water, the USCG was more concerned with tying his boat to theirs than trying to rescue him. • They detained him, took him to the American side, fingerprinted him, didn’t give him a phone call.

The Ugly Laws, a series of state laws at the turn of the 20th century, banned disabled, mentally ill and unhoused people from public places. This + other eugenic law like forced sterilization and interracial marriage bans were such comprehensive body of legislation the Nazis studied and cited them.

Verbs have /types/ it’s the coolest thing. Like, verbs don’t just have direct objects, different verbs have different requirements on their arguments, and we know all of this intuitively.

An AI generated circuit for a classic 555 timer IC based autofire. Many components miss connections, nearly everything is mislabeled, there’s a transistor that doesn’t make any sense and many more things that render this utterly useless. It looks plausible at the surface if you don’t know how to read schematics but it won’t work at all (you would even have trouble building it in the first place).
