i really just really don’t even know what to say about jesse jackson. i’ve been so surprised today how little i’m seeing about his passing, his life, his legacy… and i wonder if the world is just in this same boat with me. rest in power, rev. jackson.

well, i don’t recall crying at a super bowl halftime show before.

i don’t want to brag, but when you put on socks that say “shhh… i’m overthinking,” and then you change your mind, take them off, and change to different socks… i think you’ve really earned those socks.

i guess i am kind of a home wrecker, but only because i keep walking through spider webs. sorry, spiders—it’s not much fun for me either.

sometimes you get a glimpse/reminder of what people in your life think of you. today i woke up to find myself tagged in a NYer story a friend had reposted about imagined dating profiles of punctuation marks, and a text from my niece noting the visual similarity between monchicchi & this auntie. ✔️✔️ 💟

one thing i would like out of this day is to see a lot of people take note of the spelling of senator cory booker’s name (and adjust accordingly). ✌🏽

there is soooooooo much BS all around us, but i could not have felt better about watching and listening to senator booker and so many supportive colleagues in action all day long. “exciting the moral imagination” for real.

sometimes-to-often, i remember that back in 2019–2020, my dad & i really wanted a warren+booker ticket, something we came to independently (of each other), and early on. i guess i still kind of want this.

a question i heard today: “what kind of ancestors do we want to be?”

i saw a dear friend today for the first time in a long time, and we did some mundane activities of daily living, with interstitial crosstalk of joys and concerns and essential life questions, and it was a comfort and a delight because we were together.

in a surprise outcome, that little after–10pm dinner snack (whole wheat lavash stuffed with baby spinach & beecher’s) was the #bestthingiatetoday.

we haven’t talked much about the freezer of delights™️, but today it gave me both a rosemary bagel and a little slice of cranberry snack cake, just when i needed their healing properties the most. #bestthingiatetoday

i was unpleased to be working today, but i was quite pleased to have a spinach & swiss crêpe as my companion. #bestthingiatetoday

i had that thing happen this month where i accidentally became important at work (oh no), so i haven’t been doing much else (including checking bluesky), but i just solved a sunday crossword (in The Atlantic) in 15:43, and i have to make note of this.

took our friends back for night 2 of tacos and cookies, at their request; my chosen dessert was melted chocolate ice cream with a salted butterscotch chip cookie. #bestthingiatetoday

we got to spend time this evening with friends from very-afar, for the first time in 15 years. we introduced their 12-year-old to tacos al pastor (i had fish tacos myself), and i dutifully self-corrected & referred to cilantro as coriander the whole time for our australian mates. #bestthingiatetoday

this week has felt like one very long day, but it’s friday night now and i just finished a sunday crossword in a personal best 13:18 (the atlantic, and i don’t know how), so should i probably quit now and take to my bed till monday.

our neighbors gave us a bunch of holiday cookies on sunday; now it’s thursday and i’ve just now tried the orange olive oil one. and by one, i mean two. well, i might just eat them all. #bestthingiatetoday

wednesday: my favorite bites at the holiday afternoon tea were the ras el hanout curried egg salad on milk bread and the butternut squash & blue cheese mini quiche, and that’s just two tiny things so i don’t think i’ll narrow it down from there. #bestthingiatetoday

and then @annigan.bsky.social made us waffles for sunday breakfast. that is, she made my two favorite brunchfast foods, which i never bother to make for myself, for the two days of this weekend. oh, ann. #bestthingiatetoday
