Both studies emphasize the link between water quality and the spread of AMR, highlighting the importance of environmental surveillance in tackling AMR.
Sincerely grateful to my PI @iruka-okeke.bsky.social, supervisor, partner and all collaborators on this project.

A few years ago we asked an important public health question:What is the quality of household water in municipal Ibadan, Nigeria?
The initial study revealed the water sources did not meet the bacteriological standards, raising deeper questions on the genomic characteristics of E.coli in the water.

Genomic characterization of resistant Escherichia coli isolated from household water in municipal Ibadan, Nigeria
Escherichia coli in water indicates recent faecal contamination and possible presence of enteric pathogens. Strains harbouring virulence and/or antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) heighten the publi...
We are pleased to share with you our new study, where we explored the diversity, AMR and the pathogenic potential of E. coli isolated from water sources in municipal Ibadan. The results revealed: multidrug resistant and potentially pathogenic strains across different water sources and LGAs.

Composite of the paper header showing all authors and an equation showing phylogenetic trees plus plasmids give a complex plasmid picture.
