What the actual,,,

Things are more interesting at the regional level. Most of the areas with falling prices are in the South and the ones with rising prices are mostly in the North. This is the first time I can remember this being the case.

The Land Registry released their August 2025 house sales data for England and Wales. Prices are still increasing slightly on an annual basis but look to be going down over a shorter time frame. Sales are still in the doldrums.

This is something of an improvement from the last release which initially misplaced all Northern Irish postcodes. If you spot any other problems, let me know

A little late this month due to me being busy, but the house price data for England and Wales has been updated on the site. Prices still seem to be finding their new level after the Stamp Duty change and sales volumes still seem to be in the doldrums

Last month I noted the sudden drop in prices and assumed it was a data glitch but we are still seeing it this month. I've now realised stamp duty rates have changed and this is likely one causes of the drop in prices, basically a repeat of what happened in the summer of 2021

The annual data is more reliable and shows prices continuing to tick up but sales still low.

The latest month is always incomplete but this is particularly evident this month, with the average sale price dropping massively. I'd suggest ignoring this data point for the moment.

Really hoping it stays this way, it's my current favourite bit of cycling infrastructure in London

Dale says '100% green on the grid can’t do that' but it would as I understand it. Hence my confusion. But I agree, the way we price electricity should change. Even so, only 14% of our power today came from gas, we can't be that far off getting it to 0% on some days?

Who is going to choose to visit the US from any country when you could be locked up for no reason?

I'm confused by this statement. Isn't the price of electricity tied to gas only because gas is being used to generate it? If we are only using renewables, isn't the price set by the most expensive one of those?

We should all be using UPRNs apparently but the only way to use them effectively is to pay to get the link from the UPRN to the address. Mad. And how many of the organisations that produce the open datasets we do have are having to carefully redact them so they don't accidentally give us that info?
