That many of them believe it is immaterial. When Kyle Kirchner revealed to our class as first-graders that he had found presents in the closet labeled "from Santa," I'm sure there were skeptics, but their believe did not make Santa real.

In fact, if you want the article to be organized around a revelation, the easiest one is right there: it's not even that Santa isn't real, it's that he was your parents the whole time. If you wanted to treat them with credulity at first, now is clearly the time to point out the fiction.

Santa is not real and you shouldn't write in the paper that Santa is real.

2. If you have to to soften the lede, which is that this is a bunch of right wingers, which "many" have known since day 1, then the whole premise is doodoo.

UATX's image had never been entirely nonpartisan, but Lonsdale's message signaled a decisive, rightward turn.

I'm not going to do a whole critique of the article but I will say that:

1. It changes the whole sympathy structure of the story to say "many contend" instead of "UATX people contend"

This article is incredibly funny to basically everyone who clocked UATX at the time for what it was. At the same time, it's written with the kind of premise that would structure an interaction with a child: Santa is real, but sometimes he's too busy to write back.

That's why they hate them (I know Martin knows this). The amount of moaning about these cameras in the average social media comment section gives the game away: a lot of people just want to drive dangerously without consequence.

Minneapolis residents are painting tunnels onto brick walls and ICE agents are running into them. This is not funny.
