Abbott has been asking higher ed institutions to freeze tuitions on the promise of more state appropriations, but that well is about to dry up.

Not to mention Texas’s dirty little secret: the state budget is about to get wrecked in the session. The state has been relying more and more on sales tax revenue which is about to dry up because of the slowing economy, inflation, and tariffs.

UT will accept since:

1. The state has already forced the university to accept many of these conditions (e.g. tuition freezes and anti DEI policies)

2. The legislature will come after them hard if they don’t.

3. They’ll accept in the hopes that the next admin will rescind in 28.

At some point someone (or a group of people) will convince Trump that Miller is dragging him down and it’s time to cut him loose. But will Miller go willingly?
