How Trump’s executive order could criminalize homelessness: ‘Terrifying’ Broad language could allow cities to lock up unhoused people as aid is cut and housing costs soar, experts warn

Trump says all unhoused people in DC must leave "immediately." It comes soon after his executive order on involuntarily committing anyone the administration deems to be homeless, mentally ill, or using substances. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

the left did their part during Biden's presidency - they weren't the ones gumming up the works, everything that didn't pass was because of Manchin or Sinema

now, in the face of open fascism, a little party solidarity is the absolute least they should expect

I want to issue a formal apology. I should not have posted the locations of ICE raids, and I will no longer do so. I've contacted the authorities to take responsibility, and they are currently reviewing my account to determine if any laws were broken. If it's found that I have violated the law, I will cooperate fully and turn myself in.
To those targeting my family—please, I'm begging you to stop. They have done nothing wrong and do not deserve to be dragged into this. The anger should be directed at me, not them. Someone has already come to my home, pounding on my door and demanding to confront me. This has gone too far.
To anyone I may have put at risk, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention.

Avoid the violence/nonviolence debate. It’s a trap.

The only thing that matters is what actions lead to more justice and less harm.

Inaction and complicity in the face of brutal oppression is the worst form of violence. Never forget it.

you have got to find a way to defend immigrants without assigning them "value."

it doesn't matter how much they "contribute" to the system, they have a right to be here. and let's be real: how people view immigration policy informs how they view disabled people and children.

My feeling is that anyone who thinks the protestors are protesting wrong should go down there and demonstrate the correct way to protest in person and see what the various juices pumping through your body tell you what to do when a man dressed in black plastic shoots a gas can into your abdomen

I think a huge error that's often made in analysis of trans men's political situation is framing it as "the intersection of hatred towards trans people and hatred towards men" rather than "the trans version of hatred towards potential usurpers of hegemonic manhood"

No consortium member is REQUIRED to exercise any of their benefits. Hell, if you wanted to stay anonymous and not be listed by your name, I'd honor that too! Ultimately, I'm happy to work with every member of our consortium to craft an experience that works for them. 14/🧵

We're offering two consortium tiers. Tier 1 is your basic consortium tier: you pay $50, you get your name in the score and anywhere I list the consortium, and you get a PDF of the music. Tier 2 adds a virtual rehearsal, link placement, and a hard copy of the score on request. 13/🧵

Echoes: a consortium for cornet and piano. Subject matter: play, growth, and self-love. We will be paying particular attention to the pieces of our childhood we leave behind—and the pieces that grow along with us. Technical considerations: While no extended brass techniques are planned at this time, we anticipate that Echoes will include call-and-response interplay between soloist and pianist. We hope this will provide teachers with an opportunity to explore accompanist collaboration (both in short timeframes and over extended periods!) with students. https://bit.ly/echoes-2025-info

So what's this piece even about, anyway? Jen, my consortium lead, told me very early in our collaborative process that her kid is one of her great joys. From there we spun a concept that's focused on play, growth, and self-love (and, for me, unmasking).

Ultimately, whether you're a musician or not, when you join Echoes I'm going to work hard to make sure you're able to follow along to the extent you'd like to—and if you'd rather just be a passive funder, once you sign your contract and pay your fee, you can ignore my emails. 😂 11/🧵

go to the garden Update 1: a bare-bones excerpt!

I also provide updates to my consortium members as the piece starts to unfurl itself, but I'm a big fan of plain language all the way. Here's an example of an early update I did for 'go to the garden' in 2022: (10/🧵)

For Echoes, I'm using the same tier pricing ($50/$75) that I used for another consortium three years ago. Full disclosure, my rates *have* gone up since then—but it's important to me to keep buy-ins low, so financial burden is a smaller barrier to access. 9/🧵

The other really huge reason joining a consortium is a great way for non-performers and non-musicians to support me is because you can help fund my work without committing to either a) a subscription like Patreon or b) a much larger amount like a standalone commission. 8/🧵

When you join a consortium of mine, like Echoes, yes, your rewards include a PDF copy of the score (and for this one, if you sign up at the higher tier you can request a pretty hard copy and I'll mail it to you). But you're not AT ALL obligated to do anything with it. 7/🧵

I think this is something a lot of consortia are technically built to allow, but it doesn't get talked about very much. That seems silly to me, because the group of people who asks me how they can support me the MOST are non-musicians—people for whom it would make zero sense to buy a score. 6/🧵

01.06.2025 17:58 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Beyond that, it's common to find unique quirks within consortia depending on the composer, consortium lead, and specifics about the project. A big one of mine: I don't require consortium members (besides the lead) to perform the piece, so non-performers and non-musicians are ACTIVELY welcomed. 5/🧵

01.06.2025 17:57 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Consortia usually (but do not always) have a specific performer attached to the project as the consortium lead. This person helps a TON with marketing and administrative backend, and usually in return they are given the right to give the world premiere. 4/🧵

The exact mechanisms vary across the classical(ish) music space, but on a general level, a consortium is a group of people coming together to fund the creation of a new piece of music. It's a crowdfunding method, typically with fixed prices. 3/🧵

This piece is almost a year in the making, but before I get into the minutiae, I think it's worth discussing for my audience here: what is a consortium, exactly? 2/🧵
