You could also have answered them or someone with the same response yesterday, it doesn’t matter. The purpose is to use the veneer of politeness to swamp accounts of anyone that is critical of your campaign until they break and use that to paint them, and their argument as irrational.

So we are talking about accounts that detailed the misogynistic roots of GamerGate and as soon as they tweeted the words GamerGate and Misogyny there’d be a brigade of accounts “politely” asking for evidence/to debate the statement, even though that was done two tweets ago and not stopping.

That might be you’ve experienced people misusing it like gaslighting but that’s not what sealioning is. It was to describe a specific type of Twitter abuse that ramped up during GamerGate and linked in with Ben Shapiro’s “Girls use emotion, men use facts and logic” rhetoric.
