Discussion on rising anti-immigrant sentiment in Japan can be a little exhausting, especially as it tends to come from the people least-affected by it. But sadly, expect to see nationalism gain traction as economic comfort decreases, as is true time and again and everywhere. Remain vigilant.

...and how we use words like "collecting" to protect us from the idea of simply wanting and liking toys as toys and package the idea in palatable ways (see this very this thread?), and the existence of "collectables" as the 2000s "graphic novels" (not "comic books," heaven forfend) of the moment.

And surely at some point more to say generally about how there's still a strange stigma around adult imagination-based toy play even in nerd circles, for really no reason compared to things like video games or tabletop, or other, encouraged creative expression...

I get these to play with (transform, photograph) the same way one gets books because one wants to read them, not collecting for collecting's sake, which I've never been into.)

...and they're a pretty pure representation of that as toys driving some of my favorite comics. TFs also offer via the main gimmick the ability to shamelessly *play with* (transform) toy purchases as an adult, and discuss and appreciate engineering choices.
