highkey, this subscription drive will basically determine if we turn a profit in our first year, and whether or not we can pay ourselves for all of our work this year. we've put thousands of hours into this and we're so close.

will you help us? the-flytrap.ghost.io/dont-let-the...

I don't know if this makes it better or worse, but I work for a large school and it's happening to us on our paid Google workspace accounts while working on site, so it's definitely not just you and it is ridiculous. We think longer search strings triggers it more often, but we're not sure.

I wrote a little about some of the little details you might have missed in this video and why it hit me so hard as a trans person this morning:

I think lots of cis women have similar feelings about how much work femininity is; it's not even just a trans thing (but again, special shout out to voice training).

"I'm tired of the work it requires to be feminine" โ‰  "I'm not trans enough or not woman enough"

โ˜๏ธ Something I should remember. Sorting out transition feelings is hard, and there's a lot of negative pressure from outside my own sense of self (special shout out to how annoying voice training is).

I'm not really into astrological signs, but the little I understand makes me think this is a very Virgo thing to do.

I just realized that "good enough" is not really an intentional option in my head except as a highly calibrated efficiency setting.

That's probably not healthy, right?

It's kind of neat that the main character of the day is the CEO. It's like whatever the opposite of a crossover episode is.

I think whatโ€™s most frustrating right now for Black and Indigneous people is waiting for the bulk of white folks to catch up.

At some point the โ€œthis isnโ€™t who we areโ€ and โ€œI didnโ€™t have this on my bingo cardโ€ has to end and yโ€™all will catch up, right? RIGHT?

WE NEED YOU TO CATCH UP.

I bought the audio book on libro fm and really liked Nicky Endres's performance of it too.

I picked it up after hearing the author on a podcast. The whole podcast was good, but her quote about making trans fiction where the plot wouldn't work if the character was cis helped sell me on it.

I just finished Best Woman by Rose Dommu. It's brand new, drama filled (romcom vibes), and the central couple is cis lesbian and trans woman. The main character is fully transitioned, the specter of possible transphobia plays into some bad decisions she makes, but the bias isn't the main problem.

Very different, but I also loved: Everything for Everyone by M. E. O'Brien and Eman Abdelhadi. It's definitely a lot more going on politically, but it's future fiction looking back at how the world changed for the better. I found it hopeful, but it doesn't fit what you're looking for tonight.

For specific books that might not be in the library set: I'm listening to Best Woman by Rose Dommu and that's a great fun (trans) romcom read that very recently came out. The drama in it is very trans and juicy without feeling too heavy. I'm only partway through, but it's great so far.

So I guess the privilege that I draw out of this, the honor that I draw out of this, is not that things will necessarily be better in my lifetime, but that I will make the contribution that I am supposed to make.
The fact of the matter is, as horrifying as the killing of Charlie Kirk was, and as horrifying as the feeling is in this moment, that we are in an era of political violence โ€” and I donโ€™t want to sound flip here. Political violence is the norm for the Black experience in this country. It just is. I donโ€™t even mean like the Malcolm X, Martin Luther King variety of it โ€” which is the norm, too.
You would be hard-pressed to have a conversation with a Black person in this country who is a descendant of slavery and not have them be able to tell you themselves: Look, my uncle, my grandfather, my great-grandfather, they lived in a small town in Mississippi, in Tennessee, in Alabama, and they got into some sort of dispute with a white man. Either they were lynched or we had to run.
Political violence runs through us. It is our heritage. Is that good? No. Do we valorize it? Absolutely not. Do we minimize it? Absolutely not.
But a life free of it is not a thing thatโ€™s really in reach in my time.

This screenshot is Coates's words from that discussion quoted/linked above. I think I meant to add this at the top of the thread and just didn't. All of what Coates said is worth reading, this is just the part that jumped out for my current personal thoughts.

And so, I'm stuck between sticking my neck out as a relatively safe trans person to contribute to that generational progress, or to try to run or hide somehow. I don't know how to be brave with my kids on the line, but how do I not be brave for my kids?

29.09.2025 03:56 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And I think that makes sense! I want to see my babies grow up, and I don't want to worry about active shooters in schools, and I don't want to lose access to healthcare I need for political points!

...but every black and native person in this country already grew up with this lack of safety.

I'm white, college educated, my family is college educated, I'm married with a mortgage in a blue state, I've made it to my 30s without being disabled. There's so much going for me on a systemic level, but I'm also trans (only out several years), and I am struggling with feeling safe in the US.

I need to read more Coates. Thanks Imani for the free link (it's several down this thread if you haven't read it yet).

There's lots to say, but this spoke a bit to a problem/orientation in myself that I don't know what to do with. I've been sarcastically calling it "baby's first oppression".

The any is because I'm tired of talking about trans-ness halfway. If you called me he, fine, just keep it moving and let me be a person. But if you want to talk the beauties and complexities of gender and identity, well I'm so in even if you've barely scratched the surface before.

I think I've finally put my finger on a feeling I've been having about maybe using she/any pronouns. She is most comfortable and what all my loved ones use, but to some extent I don't really care what you call me; I'm trans for my own sake.

12.09.2025 13:20 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

I was not put on this earth to work. I was put here to get a new hobby every week and then move on as soon as I get even a little bit good at it

And, the kids are great, and this is still better, but combined with fascism and the puberty hormones, this year has been ~a lot~.

So I've been trying to put my finger on a set of non-feelings I've been having, and I think I at least partly figured it out:

I moved straight from Transsexual Depersonalizationโ„ข to Motherhood Depersonalizationโ„ข.
