Yeah of course, there are always reasons for Doctor-lite episodes and season lengths, and they often work out well. A shame with Ruby leaving too, a whole episode where she's really good and gets a really good backstory ends up feeling wasted when you then hear she's only really doing one season.

Yeah, I totally agree with the season length issue. A doctor-lite episode in a 12/13 episode run adds some nice variety - spending a consecutive episode and a half-episode (73y / D&B) without him, in his first season when we're still getting to know him and we're only getting 8 eps was too much.
