Me and my little textile adventures. Predominately weaving but can’t forget the knitting, sewing, crochet and embroidery attempts. Parental figure, witch, weaver, AuDHD and PTSD.

06.08.2025 07:12 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A photo from the back of my loom showing my warp of black and white cotton threads in various patterns with light orange pattern breaks. It’s would onto the back beam and about 4/5 threaded through the heddles.
Almost on the loom. After a lovely #crafternoon with a house full of friends and kids I’m too tired to function and too overstimulated to do much so it gets finished tomorrow. For now #mrbalen and #knitting.

Yup. It works really well. If I have it horizontal for longer warps I just grab a couple of clamps from the garage to help secure it. Vertically it secures well without them.

And we have a braid. Tomorrow it goes on the loom

You can see my warping board (a big wooden rectangle with dowels poking out that you thread your yarn around. Used to measure out the warp and keep a nice even tension) with black and white cotton yarn measured onto it. It’s balanced on a painting easel to keep it at a nice height for me to work on. In the background you can see the tv that my partner is playing mechwarrior on.
Back at the warping board. This one is a slight variation on the #JSTSchoolofWeaving colour and weave gamp. Something light to get me back behind the loom.
8/2 cotton in black, white and light orange.

I’m still having to look up things like how to knit in the back loop. I think I’ll stop worrying about it a few projects in. I certainly have enough cabled patterns saved.

My beloved partner (male presenting) standing in our bedroom in jeans and the hand knit Gandy sweater I just finished. He’s not impressed I’m taking a photo but I am posting with permission.
They’re not big on photos but it is DONE. The Gandy sweater by Mode at Rowan for my beloved. They love it and the yarn (Darnie by Studio Donegal) has come up delightfully soft with the grease washed out. So happy - this is my first ever complete knit project.
Unfortunately the tank looked awful on. The shape just didn’t sit right so that’s been frogged while I decide on a better project for it. That cotton sliver looks just divine
29.07.2025 09:05 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0That’s incredibly lovely. It’s a shade darker than yours and lightly heathered. It’s almost done. Just needs it final wash to get the grease out

28.07.2025 03:56 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I bought this direct from the seller at a local yarn show. Hoping they’re making for many more years to come.

Photo of a cake of yarn on a spinner set on a table. It’s a beautifully soft silk merino blend and looks almost oil bit like an oil slick - silvery grey dominates but with lovely shades of purple and blue in the spin.
Happy anniversary #showmeyourknits!!
Apparently the prompt today is knitters choice so here’s the stunning yarn I’ve just cast on my next project with. It is Silk Stocking in the Evermore colourway by Dyed by Hand Yarns. It’s so soft and looks almost oil slick like.
Meme with sepia words on a black background. There is a spinning wheel in the lower left corner and scissors and a tape measure in the lower right corner. It reads “Working with textiles is a trap. First they lure you with knitting, then you pick up crochet. Next you start getting curious with fiber and you learn how to spin. Weaving is cool right? You now own a loom… heck, while you’re at you may as well start making your own clothes. Spinning is no longer enough for you, you need something more, you learn how to die. Dyeing is fun, but would be good to have a source of fiber. You are now a shepherd!” Source unknown

#BendigoWoolAndSheepShow stole all my money.
I have spinning to do. Lots of it.
There will be a blog post with better pics and links to the stores I bought from.

08.07.2025 02:15 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The red Gandy sweater is ready for me to start sewing the sleeves on as soon as the current room swaps are finished. 05.07.2025 11:37 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The collar section of the Gandy jumper. I had no idea how one would knit a v-neck but it’s come out rather tidy and looking good. Maybe should have gone down a needle size
The v neck front and straight back pieces of the Gandy sweater on my vibrant blue blocking surface before I sewed the shoulder seams together and added the actual collar section.
My Fairy Chasm top screwed up into the top of my knitting bowl. It’s a lovely neutral off white/cream colour in cotton 8ply
#showmeyourknits asked about WIPS and I have 3 projects going right now. Not pictured is the very slowly being knit green socks (the small needles and my hands aren’t getting along over winter)…
Those colours are just lovely
