The Cost of Staying Quiet When Murder Becomes Foreign Policy
If every life bears God's image, why are we watching Venezuela in silence?
Blowing up boats off the coast of Venezuela with alleged drug smugglers is deeply immoral and illegal. My thoughts on why we must denounce these murders and restrain the grave misuse and abuse of presidential power www.sojo.net/articles/opi...

Check out my recent article, "Who Deserves SNAP? Jesus Has a Parable for That” at: sojo.net/articles/opi....
The parable of the Good Samaritan prompts us to move beyond the conversation on whether recipients of benefits like SNAP are deserving and to extend abundant concern and compassion.

My reflections on how we can help end this manufactured and reversible crisis around SNAP/food assistance and the immorality around rising hunger.

Who Deserves SNAP? Jesus Has a Parable for That
When we start asking who is worthy of care, we've already lost the plot.
Watching President Trump cruelly defy a court order requiring the resumption of SNAP benefits reminds me of the parable of the Good Samaritan, where Jesus expands our understanding of our neighbor and shows us what abundant compassion requires.

How SNAP benefits for 42 million Americans could be saved during the shutdown
The USDA has refused to release contingency funds, and Congress remains gridlocked — but there are still paths to keeping the nutrition assistance program alive.
The Trump administration must use the contingency fund to prevent over 40 million Americans from losing their SNAP food assistance benefits on Sat. As we approach Thanksgiving, Congress has the opp. And moral responsibility to prevent families from going hungry! www.yahoo.com/news/article...

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments today on a critical case that could further gut the Voting Rights Act. Voting rights are essential to the health and legitimacy of our democracy. We must pray and act to defend the sacred freedom to vote for all Americans. My prayer and message today.

Today I celebrate the 20 hostages who were finally returned to their families and the long overdue ceasefire in Gaza. I pray that as President Trump declared to the Knesset, this truly is a “new dawn in the Middle East” of sustainable peace that includes Palestinian statehood and Israeli security.

Lifting up fervent prayers and support today for all the victims of Oct 7, all those who are still held hostage, and all the victims of the horrific war in Gaza. As we mourn and remember those we’ve lost let us redouble our commitment to ending the war and pave the way toward a sustainable peace.

We Aren’t the First Christians To Face a Kairos Moment
Forty years ago, South African Christians showed us how to resist repressive regimes and twisted theologies.
"If we follow the example of our South African siblings, we in the U.S. need to articulate a prophetic theology that refuses to be neutral or apolitical, and is committed to explicitly naming and condemning the powers that prohibit justice."

At Charlie Kirk’s Memorial, Worship Took a Backseat to Trump
There may have been hope in Jesus at the memorial. But it had to wait until President Trump received his glory.
"What those artists did, ultimately, even if unwittingly, was provide cultural legitimacy to, and warmup for, an event in which Jesus’ name was certainly uttered a lot...but this Jesus was ultimately subservient to Trump’s America." sojo.net/articles/opi...

Sojourners has been countering false narratives and shining a light on truth for more than 50 years, and we are not stopping now. But without continuing financial support, the mission we strive for is at risk. Chip in and help support our work at a critical moment: give.sojo.net/page/88365/d...

Erika Kirk says she forgives the man accused of killing her husband
Speaking to tens of thousands of people at the memorial, Kirk said she had found comfort in prayer and also in the way people had responded to her husband's death.
It was moving to see Erika Kirk forgive her husband’s killer because “that is what Christ would do” and say we cannot meet hate with more hate. In stark contrast, President Trump disagreed saying “he hates his opponents”. I pray that our nation and TP embraces her witness and not Trump’s.

Jesus Was a Protester
Protesting is the antithesis of being apathetic, complicit, callous, and passive. Jesus was very good at it.
