Starting this week I am taking some planned time off to vacation with my family and recharge my batteries for ministry and activism. My team at @sojo.net will be monitoring my social media accounts and resharing occasional content until my return on August 22nd.

Spread God's Love, Not Measles
Rejecting vaccines and dismantling our public health systems won't make America healthier.
The real purpose of a vaccine is to protect not just individuals but all of us. Being vaccinated against dangerous diseases is one of the most concrete things any of us can possibly do to fulfill Jesus’ commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves. Shame on Congress for passing a rescission package that cuts $8 billion from lifesaving foreign aid! Loving our neighbors as ourselves applies not just to our neighbors down the street but also our neighbors around the world.

Senate passes effort to claw back $9B from budget -- including cuts to public broadcasting and USAID
Murkowski said on Wednesday that she still opposes the bill after voting on Tuesday against advancing it forward.
My heart breaks for the $9 billion of cuts to life saving health and food programs made permanent by the Senate recession vote. These cuts are immoral and set a dangerous precedent weakening Congress’ power of the purse. Encourage the House to defeat this! abcnews.go.com/Politics/sen...

House passes tax and immigration bill, sending it to Trump’s desk
Republicans passed a mammoth tax and immigration agenda they hope will reshape the U.S. economy and unwind many of the Biden administration’s accomplishments.
With the passage today of the big ugly bill, my heart breaks and prayers are with the estimated 17 million Americans who will lose their health care, millions who will lose access to food, and to communities who will be torn apart by aggressive mass raids. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

A quiet march of coffins at #MoralMondays made one thing clear: lives are on the line.
This reconciliation bill isn’t policy—it’s a death sentence for the poor.
We march. We mourn. We demand a moral budget.

“It is a deeply immoral bill—but there is still time to do what’s right.” It’s time to flood the Capitol with your calls to stop the so-called “big, beautiful bill” before the Senate passes this travesty. Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and get connected to your Senators’ offices.

🚨 Thousands are suffering after Trump, with Elon Musk’s support, illegally slashed USAID — cutting off food and medical aid to those most in need.
Now he wants to make the cuts permanent.
Congress must act.

We Can't Bomb Our Way to Peace in the Middle East
The call to break the cycle of violence is where followers of Jesus and the prophetic tradition of religious faith always begin.
I'm deeply grateful for the moral clarity of this article from my colleague Rose Marie Berger and Wes Granberg-Michaelson: "...we must repeat the consistent prophetic warning not to place our trust in 'chariots and horses' (Psalm 20:7)...might does not make right." sojo.net/articles/opi...
