In about September I plan to go door-to-door to try and whip support for traditional trick-or-treating on our block. We live on a really long block, so kids would only have to cross the street once. If I can get a good number of people to participate, it could be great for all the kids!

After not having neighbors for 9 years, I was excited to get to do the neighbor thing of clearing off the sidewalks next door while I was out doing ours. Not to toot my own horn, I'm just living for being within a community. I missed it!

I think we've very thoroughly established now that most "conservatives" aren't for smaller government. They aren't for reduced spending. They aren't against wealth redistribution. They aren’t against large tax increases. They aren't for-at a minimum-the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th or 10th Amendments. They aren't pro-business or in favor of free markets. The religious-right isn't for any semblance of Christianity of the type described by Jesus (and they wonder why Americans are fleeing church in droves). They aren't against Russia or for NATO and western alliances (or any sort of coherency in foreign policy, for that matter). They don't support democracy. They are outright hostile to the rule of law. They aren't even lesser-evils at ANY of these things even relative to the exceedingly low bar set by Democrats I really can't quite figure out any coherent belief structure at all aside from opposing Democrats and anyone they deem as culturally "other." Half of them or pretty close to it genuinely want this. The other half go along either out of ignorance or tribalism--but guess what? That's still supporting it I say this as a right-leaning, small government favoring, pro-business, highly politically incorrect, raging capitalist angel investor, retired USMC officer who doesn't even know how many "assault weapons" he has, let alone how many guns altogether. I don't like spending, I don't like excessive regulation, I don't like taxes, and I am not in favor of progressive overall tax curves (although I consider total tax burden, not just income). I am light-years more conservative than the current GOP--and I don't want to hear any epithets about "liberal" when I pull a straight (D) ticket in all the upcoming elections, and I don't want to ever hear any of you lecturing anyone about, well, pretty much anything in that first paragraph This is beyond disgusting, but what is most disgusting is the way half the country is contorting themselves and basic facts to excuse the inexcusable
