The Israeli murder of Palestinian journalists is always intentional, always met with silence. And that's why it keeps happening. don't look away

DC and the tipped wage thing a good demonstration of the limits of "you gotta win people over" and "you gotta vote". they've won the people over. they've won the vote. they've done this repeatedly. the first vote to do this was in *2018* with initiative 77. and still DC goes "nope."

This is the first walkout in the 113 year history of the Boston Red Sox’s stadium.
These essential workers will be on strike as the World Series champion Dodgers come to town this weekend.

"A Black man is getting a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking a record of an all-time baseball idol. What a marvelous moment for baseball. What a marvelous moment for Atlanta and the state of Georgia. What a marvelous moment for the country and the world.”
This was Vin Scully's call of Henry Aaron's 715th home run. Tonight Major League Baseball cut off the first sentence, starting it with the "What a marvelous moment" part because they don't want to anger the white supremacists who run our country and of whom Rob Manfred is an ardent supporter.

"Laundering" is exactly the correct word here
I don't know if people know this, but that infamous Atlantic article? The author sourced his interviewees from anti-trans hate groups and concealed this fact, and laundered what were fringe extremist beliefs, editorialised to appear more palatable.

Gaza Strip was approximately 2.227 million. The Garb report includes maps displaying IDF estimates for the populations remaining in what are considered the three primary enclaves.
The numbers are as follows:
Gaza City: 1 million
Mawasi: 0.5 million
Central: 0.35 million
The total of these official estimates is 1.85 million people.
Simple arithmetic reveals a horrifying gap: 2.227 million minus 1.85 million leaves 377,000 people unaccounted for.
A Harvard study of IDF data finds that there are 377,000 people unaccounted for in Gaza.
That estimate is six times the number of people normally cited as killed.
Genocide.

Yes, the Red Sox salary-dumped a home-grown star for an underwhelming return. But the thing is, he didn't want to DH and refused to play first. If they ever had a home-grown star who played every position he was asked to, there's no way they'd salary-dump *that* guy for an underwhelming return.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

Yeah. No fucking shit. Your city can make all the sanctuary policies it wants but they're meaningless if no one is willing to leash the police (which electeds are loathe to do bc they're STUPIDLY afraid of their dumbest employees), who extend "professional courtesy" to their federal counterparts.

As I've said before, what we're dealing with fundamentally here, and have been dealing with for some time, is evil. Our political norms and political media prohibit talking about a mainstream political faction this way. But it is the truth. It needs to be known and it needs to be said.

During the pandemic, the US implemented the most effective social welfare policies in our history -- programs that worked because they were big enough, simple, and universal. And then we withdrew them. This remains imo the central economic-policy story of our times. davisvanguard.org/2025/05/3hou...
