Seems like the petrol station is taking this case expecting to lose but then would plan to take a tort action resting on loss of profit. A lot of wasted court time.

02.04.2025 04:51 โ ๐ 219 ๐ 45 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0FIGURE 2: Average Annual Fatal Collisions per 1 Million Cars by Weight Category (2019-2023) Key findings: Lighter cars (500-1000kg) have the lowest fatal collision rates per million cars across all collision types, indicating a lower relative risk compared to heavier cars. As car weight increases, the number of fatal collisions rises, peaking at 26.2 for the heaviest cars (2001-2500kg) suggesting a higher likelihood of involvement in fatal collisions. This trend is consistent for Car-Car and Car- Pedestrian collisions. In Car-Bike collisions, lighter cars have the lowest fatal collision rates per million cars, indicating they are less likely to be involved in fatal collisions with cycles compared to heavier cars, which show consistent fatality rates for cars in categories above 1001kg.
New analysis of relationship between car weight and fatal collision rates in the UK finds โppl driving heavier cars are disproportionately involved in more fatal collisionsโ.
Particularly the case for those involving other cars or pedestrians.

Utrecht's inner ring road transformed into a vibrant city boulevard.
The city converted the busy traffic road into a safe road with greenery, with priority to sustainable means of transport.

Idyllic!! Wish we could have that done on a few Irish roads.

People riding in a separated bike-lane
โEvery $1,300 New York invested in building bike-lanes in 2015 provided benefits equivalent to 1 additional year of life at full health over the lifetime of all city residents, according to a new economic assessment.โ
Bike-lanes are a sound public health investment.

Itโs just crying out to be made a few metres wider and have a cycle way all the way to Merlin Park.
05.01.2025 23:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Very high danger levels on these crossing points, several near misses reported.
05.01.2025 23:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is good but some small improvements would help. Both crossings should be Zebras, itโs hard to understand why not. Overall this scheme shyed away from putting bollards on the footpath at Scoil Fhursa where there is daily footpath parking and made too many concessions.
05.01.2025 23:14 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Quote from @humantransit.bsky.social noting that โfrequency is freedomโ that a 10 minute frequency creates a critical psychological shift where transit becomes useful for people who value freedom.
In cities where there isnโt likely to be investment available for badly needed service improvements AND free fares (sadly, thatโs MOST cities), I strongly prefer strategic ridership-focused SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS, along with reasonable fares (and free fares for under 18, over 60, and low income). 3/

05.01.2025 12:36 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We only have 125kg of salt; apparently it should go down at 20g/m2, so with a 2m wide footpath maybe thatโs enough for over 2km of footpath but we were only thinking it would cover a few hundred m. Plus thereโs just a few volunteers on this proof of concept project.
05.01.2025 12:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hereโs an old clip from RTE where a lawyer mentions in passing that Councils are obligated to grit footpaths. Anyone know what the basis might be for that? Any relevant laws or cases?

Hospital is a key one since employees there canโt work from home in the bad conditions plus many hospital clients might be unsteady on their feet. Maybe Newcastle Rd/UHG footpaths are a particularly important area to focus on. We donโt have much salt tbh, just 5 bags.
05.01.2025 10:57 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Weโre gonna salt a few Galway city footpaths tomorrow evening. Can you suggest the highest priority spots?
Steep places near schools or other high traffic areas where walkers and wheelers might fall.
