After 40 years as an autistic person in the workplace, I realised it was OK to ask for changes | Sandra Thom-Jones Many autistic people face barriers due to stereotypes and ableist assumptions, including the belief that the neurotypical way of working is the only right way

Mum's anti-chemotherapy views influenced Paloma Shemirani's death Paloma Shemirani died after refusing chemotherapy despite a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

This is why I can’t stand anti vaxxers and those that believe in pseudoscience BS.

This mum killed her daughter basically.

Being a person with autism has not been easy but the reason it hasn't been easy- is because non-autistic people are not taught how to interact with autistic people. Autistic people are expected to socially mask & neurotypicals generally don't have even a base idea of how autistic people communicate.

Nobody told the people raising us or the churches tasked w/ developing us spiritually that you don't create strong, confident people through fear & shame-- or maybe they just didn't care if we grew up strong & confident.

Maybe that wasn't, actually, their objective. Huh.

πŸ“’ New research!

Autism isn’t *just* about challenges

We have strengths too but these are rarely recognised, which can lead to:

- low self-esteem
- shame
- stigma
- having less direction in life

Lampinen et al explore autistic strengths in a new paper 😊

Do you relate to any of these? πŸ‘‡

Autistic people could teach Donald Trump a thing or two about focus, facts and empathy | Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett While not without its challenges, autism isn’t a curse to be cured of, as the likes of the President and RFK Jr want us to believe, says Guardian columnist Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett

This chart is interesting and why I asked for an ADHD referral (prob wasn’t done as my MH team are shit). I fit a lot of the #AuDHD categories rather than just autism. I don’t tend to be impulsive. Impulsive is trauma responses.

TikTok - Make Your Day

So I am all over tik tok as someone videoed me today waiting for tills to open in Tesco. I am stimming by moving back and forth in my phone. He calls me insane and a balloon for swaying. Autistic Stimming isn’t acceptable and this was a harmless stim. vm.tiktok.com/ZNdGNNHsY/

It’s NOT a communication β€œdeficit”… It’s the Double Empathy Problem - and it changes everything

πŸ’¬ Autistic people aren’t defective, uncaring, or unsociable

🧠 The real issue? Two different neurotypes trying to connect

Communication is a two-way street, not a one-sided flaw

If I could get non-autistic people to understand one thing, it wouldn't be that I have support needs. It would be that YOU have support needs.

Autism is a natural divergence from neurotypicality. It's normal & not the tragedy these clowns are making it out to be.

Transness is a natural divergence from cisnormativity. It's normal & not the tragedy these clowns are making it out to be.

Just deal with people being different than you.
