Point taken. But the question is whether they take less time than consuming the information in its entirety? I would argue that this is indeed the case, in which case you are still ahead.

For Shabana Mahmood to attack some of the most cruelly treated people in the world as having won a "golden ticket" because they manage to get to and claim asylum in Britain is unforgiveable.

Excellent work from @lewan.bsky.social, summed up succinctly here. There is hope and we can beat the social media wave of negativity & polarization, but only by a bit of careful “ignoring”..

And that in turn is problematic if people share information that is attentionally favoured under overload. The solution? Ignore stuff! But how do you know what to ignore without reading it in the first place? The answe is, rely on information "scent" -- sniff enough to know it's best ignored. 3/n

Turns out that information abundance *per se*; that is, irrespective of information quality, has adverse cognitive consequences. Under information overload, attentional
selection processes favor information that is belief-consistent, negative, social, and predictive. 2/n
