Matthew was always out there shining light on many #AtlantaWay shenanigans (& worse). He once exposed a contract-for-deed seller, Divvy, by becoming a customer. They sued him claiming he tricked them by becoming a customer with purpose to pursue consumer protection claims. He won (settled). RIP.

The highest calling for a board is to serve the mission, and there are times when a board is forced to choose between obeying the wishes of a big funder or fulfilling the mission with integrity. Sad to see Ruby Central's board make the wrong choice.

Here's the thing, from a nonprofit governance perspective. A bad judgement can be forgiven. Everyone makes mistakes. But surprises should not happen, especially when the decisions are big and impactful.

I remember hearing about a skeptic of the usefulness of home computers in the early days saying they couldn't think of any uses for it other than maybe storing recipes. Now, I'm thinking maybe that'd be a good use for social media. Sharing recipes.
