I am increasingly of the opinion that the division is between serious/not serious instead of the traditional liberal/leftist battle lines.

The enemy on the flank is whoever's trifling in the face of problems that urgently need solving.

I prefer to headcanon the latter because it's more interesting. If Gotham is really just a normal city with a lot of crime and disorder, you're 100% correct that the answer is basically "elect Mamdani on a sewer socialist anti-corruption platform".

This is a situation where you have to decide, as a fan, whether Gotham is NYC and runs on real-world logic or whether Gotham is more like a "built on top of an Indian graveyard" fantasy horror situation where the city literally has a soul and that soul is rotten.

This is "the T-Rex can't see you if you don't move"-level urban warfare tactics.

The one guy on here who seriously attempted to justify it claimed that the purpose was to "control space" and "mask activity".

It really is horseshoe theory for the cult of the operator. These people are larping.

If there's no typo it's just sparkling commentary.

Maturing as a man is identifying with Cyclops in the first X-Men movie instead of Wolverine.

they should make a movie series about how itโ€™s irresponsible to use technology to mess with the natural order of things for profit

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder, but I don't think Nyong'o is conventionally beautiful at all.

This is incredible content, thank you very much.

Can someone link me to an explanation of the quokka thing? This is my first time hearing about it.

10% is fairly significant, and it's also the average/median (chart not clear). I would love to see what the bell curve looks like.

Heads rolled, and concessions were made, both explicitly and implicitly. Among them, and I'll bang this drum again because I think it's extremely important, IIRC the Dems were able to force the regime to agree to equip DHS agents with body-worn cameras.

But the US is clearly not there yet, and the Good/Pretti murders proved it. While those incidents did not usher in anarcho-communist utopia, they deeply upset the regime's base of support to the point that the regime felt forced to make policy changes.

Don't get me wrong: there's a strategically-appropriate time for armed resistance, and it comes when the state is so corrupted that the victimization of innocents does not produce political change.

Iranians, for example, are perfectly justified in engaging in armed resistance.

Woke 1.0's strategic approach to protest is designed to make its participants look badass and have everyone they know think they're super cool and to permit them to indulge their ape-level instincts for tribal violence.

If anything of political worth is achieved, that's a bonus.

02.02.2026 19:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 6    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There's an overarching theme here that if you dig into the Woke 1.0 "codebase" in almost any respect, what you tend to find is a tool designed to be wielded to improve the *social status* of the wielder, not to actually achieve the egalitarian, welfare-oriented objectives on the tool's label.

While I grieve for Good and Pretti, *that* is what getting victimized looks like: the party with overwhelming strength beating up on a vulnerable party that isn't trying to pick a fight for no good reason.

This, for example, is not getting victimized by fascists. This is losing a brawl to fascists. Normies correctly interpret scenes like this as two apes fighting for dominance, and if anything are more impressed by the ape who delivers the ass-kicking.

More generally, for a variety of reasons, I don't think antifa types understand/accept that you do not win a protest by turning it into a street battle and then winning the street battle, you win it - best case scenario - by getting victimized on national TV by a fascist thug.

02.02.2026 19:36 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 14    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Like, even taking at face value their arguments about the tactical benefits of rolling the dumpster into the roadway and setting it on fire to "control space" and "mask movement", only an amateur would take for granted that those things are valuable enough for the associated cost in normie support.

02.02.2026 19:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 24    ๐Ÿ” 2    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Another factor here that should not be overlooked is the degree to which normies *despise* public disorder.

So in addition to all of Gyges' cogent points, truly wise protesters would be asking themselves whether the tactical value of lighting a dumpster on fire was worth the strategic cost.

02.02.2026 19:32 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 31    ๐Ÿ” 3    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

*Setting a dumpster on fire* ain't it, man. This should be obvious to you.

I agree that people don't pay very close attention to what they spend on food, but I disagree that it's a small share of overall spending.

It's only a small share if you're disciplined about buying bulk foods from the grocery store and if you're not feeding kids.

02.02.2026 19:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

You absolutely do have to police how others are "resisting", because some people are engaged in something that more closely resembles an extreme sport than productive political action.

02.02.2026 19:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 37    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

What you are talking about is initiating urban warfare in a residential area in a way that maximizes collateral harm to the community with no clear strategic purpose.

I think these arguments are extremely popular not because they are particularly convincing but because they create a permission structure for what people perceive as the fun thing

I think Nolan cast Lupita Nyongo as Helen of Troy to score culture war points, not because he thought she was the best available fit for the role in terms of literal or figurative resemblance to descriptions in the source material.

I think everyone fighting about this deserves each other.
