Also they aren’t focused on driving. They’re in areas unfamiliar to them looking for the right address all while on a timer. The last thing they are thinking about is driving safely.

Oh that’s a whole other issue with vehicle manufacturing. Car makers are making the frame pillars bigger and bigger to protect the occupants but this creates enormous blind spots that people are too fucking lazy to move their head 3 inches to check.

biggest one I’ve seen is people turning left in front of traffic because they don’t want to wait. Interestingly I think it’s made parents more conservative about their children walking/riding. They’re simultaneously insane drivers and complain to us that their kids are gonna die without a crosswalk

Not specifically but I think a lot of people started using their phones while driving during Covid because of the low traffic volumes and lack of enforcement. Also the explosion in delivery app drivers has been negative as well. They are among the worst drivers on the road.

Inot the only factor but our governments basically forced us back into society risking our lives for the economy. That has to have some impact on your psyche around the value of your own life and the lives of others. It was laid bare that our lives our meaningless in the eyes of the authorities

It’s anecdotal and needs more study but aggressive driving seems to be much more prevalent. People are taking chances in traffic that are too risky for the reward of saving 5-10 seconds. Speeding, red light running, and just a general refusal to accommodate other drivers are all on the rise imo

I’m a traffic safety engineer and I think it did a number on our ability to properly gauge risk/reward.
