ugh yeah weed removal is a nonstop battle. our site has so many years of accumulated invasive seeds that we’ve been sheet mulching before planting, which requires gradually tackling areas in sections

Yarrow is another good one that comes back every year and blooms in June/July. Ours are just starting to fade now. Make sure you get the native achillea millefolium and not one of the non-native yarrow variants (PNW native yarrow blooms are white, non-native variants can be yellow and pink)

Yes! We get most of our native seeds from Satinflower. Another source I like is northwestmeadowscapes.com

Yeah it supposedly prefers wet soil but it’s been flourishing on our dry, south-facing slopes that get almost no water in the summer

As your constituent, thank you for voting no on cloture, and for all your work on the clean CR. Thank you for not caving in.

Ah yeah yarrow can go crazy in the right conditions. I’ve grown lavender from seed several times and they don’t seem to spread once planted (in my climate, anyway) and the pollinators love them. Plus they stay green all winter and require very little care and watering.

I’ve read that you want to avoid combining raspberries and strawberries because they’re subject to the same soil-based diseases. I do combine strawberries and blueberries and that has worked well so far

Maybe some lavender and/or yarrow to attract pollinators and beneficial insects? A bit late in the season now but I like planting garlic with raspberries, and then I do cover crops (usually a mix of clovers) in the summer/fall

I’d be happy to submit your resume as an internal referral for an open client success role at the tech company I work for. It’s fully remote, good culture, good benefits. DM me if you’d be interested! I think we have IRL mutual friends if that helps lol

I’m so sorry to hear this. I could refer you to an open customer service role (fully remote) at the tech company where I work if you’d be interested. Feel free to DM, and I’m so sorry you’re going through so much awful shit at once.

@cantwell.senate.gov I am your constituent on Whidbey Island. I urgently ask that you join Senator Wyden on the finance committee to stop this active coup. Elon Musk is a national security emergency. You and your colleagues in the senate must act immediately to protect the treasury.

Native plants almost never need watering if you plant them the right time of year (usually fall, or winter for some seeds). And a lot of plants will attract beneficial insects that eat the pest insects, so a mix of flowers is good!

What sort of tasks are you looking for the app to help you with? The nice thing about native plants is they generally don’t need much care or maintenance, especially if you plant them during a rainy season. Forgetting them usually isn’t a problem!
