Also no contract has been put out for tender yet, nevermind someone being chosen, so there was nothing to "pull out of"...
04.10.2025 18:45 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0βPalantir has long had a policy that we will help democratically elected governments implement the policies they have been elected to deliver and that does mean that often we are involved in the implementation of very controversial measures,β he told Times Radio. βDigital ID is not one that was tested at the last election. It wasnβt in the manifesto. So we havenβt had a clear resounding public support at the ballot box for its implementation. So it isnβt one for us.β
According to article in the Times, this is what he said:

Haven't supermarket bogof deals all but disappeared already anyway? I don't think I have seen one for years?

04.10.2025 11:47 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0On the death penalty I am guessing Reform voters with a large majority in favour and everyone else more of a 50/50 split? (Everyone else overall, but with Lab/Green/LD higher percentage opposed?).
02.10.2025 19:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This kind of ad for example:
02.10.2025 12:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Interesting - because a couple of 'digital marketing' companies running these fake celebrity endorsement / fake news article on fake BBC news website scam ads on Google are limited companies registered in Nicosia, Cyprus with Russian directors, secretaries and staff.
02.10.2025 12:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Saw a scam (video) ad on Google ads recently which was using a video hosted on YouTube as the ad (deepfake video of Martin Lewis promoting a cryptocurrency investment).
They didn't bother to change the file name to a title - the word in Russian means 'copy'.
Reported to YouTube who did nothing.
I was incorrectly listed as not having paid multiple months over multiple years (had multiple debt collector letters and phone calls threatening me with summary warrant/ Sheriffs court) - eventually all sorted with help from CAB due to council being useless.
Nobody ever turned up at my door.
Likely to be uneconomical in UK as well given US breakeven needs an oil price of $70 a barrel (although some sources say $50 to $60) and UK doesn't have the midstream infrastructure etc that the US has + smaller scale, higher costs here? But yes, also very unpopular.

My grandfather fought in the war in North Africa for the British and was taken prisoner of war by the Germans.
If Reform win the next election they have said that their policy is to deport me, even though by the date of the election I will have lived in the UK for 40 years (all my adult life).

30.09.2025 10:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haddock and chips is Β£15 in Tynemouth - same order a couple of years ago was Β£10 - a 50% increase.
29.09.2025 15:37 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0M&S shoppers buy it - whenever I was in M&S food section (which also sells newspapers) more people had a copy of the Daily Mail in their basket/ trolley than any other paper.
Sometimes I used to put another newspaper on top of the Daily Mail pile in hope that people would think it was sold out..
Never been to HM but the Broad Chare in Newcastle (upmarket pub) are charging 42 quid for a rib-eye steak and 82 quid for a T bone!!
28.09.2025 21:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fair point yes, it's a takeaway from a van, so probably not a fair comparison! Independent in Edinburgh centre with table service would be somewhere like Civerinos who are mostly Β£12 to Β£14 but also have a Β£20 option. Or not in centre, somewhere like Origano in Leith which is around Β£14 to Β£16.
28.09.2025 21:31 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Price of beef has shot up this year. Can still get a decent rib eye in Aldi for Β£7 though...
28.09.2025 21:14 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sounds reasonable to me at Β£27.50 a head. Upmarket pub in Newcastle charge Β£21.50 for Sunday roast, desserts mostly Β£9 then drinks on top of that - so easily close to Β£40 a head for similar Sunday lunch.
28.09.2025 21:06 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Depends what you get - cheapest on menu is Margherita at Β£13.75, the most expensive Pizzas on their menu are Β£20, yes. Although Pizza Express almost always have bogof offers or other discounts etc...maybe not at peak times though?
Local independents much cheaper and nicer however (eg Β£9 to Β£12).
Hawksmoor is majority owned by private equity though.
28.09.2025 20:44 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's great that people do voluntary work and would great if even more people did do it. But there are lots of perfectly reasonable practical reasons why people don't (time, family, health, work commitments, lack of local opportunities, lack of transport etc). Shouldn't be compulsory to do it!
28.09.2025 17:29 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Scottish household survey shows around 75% to 80% (depending on the survey year) of adult population don't do voluntary work - so basically saying you have to do something extra which the vast majority of population don't do.

Of course some of these same people will think it's perfectly fine for themselves personally or any other Brit to go and live in another country, because, reasons... (they are 'expats' not immigrants you see...)
28.09.2025 13:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Unless we literally rescue an orphan from a burning building or win a Nobel prize, whatever we do or whoever we are will never be enough for some people, because having been born in another country (not exactly a matter we had any say in anyway) and choosing to come & live here outweighs all else.
