For sure. That’s exactly what I had in mind with the “if they thought they could get away with it” bit — I definitely think a PL or La Liga playoff would get the European super league treatment from fans.

On the other hand, if they bomb out of the playoffs, I don’t really care very much where they finished the season on the table. Playoffs risk the whole season’s results, and as such feel very much higher stakes than a tournament that is played in addition to normal league play.

I think we’re discussing the same thing but just talking past each other a smidge. The playoffs have a different timbre than a tournament because a tournament is additive — if the sounders bomb out of leagues cup or usoc, that doesn’t change how I think about their league play.

It makes the regular season into a qualifier for the playoffs and awards the title for the season to the winner of the playoffs, rather than the team that accumulated the most points during the regular season. So, the team that wins the league may have come in 6th place during the season.

On Saturday, Fleur De Noise recognized Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a banner and drumhead decorated by young CITY fans at a local children's hospital. Firstly, we want to thank everyone who donated on Saturday; your contributions and support will make a massive positive impact! After discussions earlier this year with the club, Fleur De Noise learned that CITY would not be hosting a Childhood Cancer Night this year, unlike the previous two seasons. Fleur De Noise felt it was important to continue recognizing this cause, which has had a significant impact on the CITY community. However, prior to Saturday's match, Fleur De Noise was informed that the banner intended for display in the stadium would not be permitted, as it was deemed "not pertinent to the event," pursuant to the CITY fan code of conduct. Fleur De Noise submitted the banner weeks in advance to allow for time to make changes if needed. Fleur De Noise did not hear a response until Wednesday of match week, after the banner had already been printed and painted by the children at the hospital. We continued to work with the club to find a path forward and an explanation of why the verbiage would not be allowed. Fleur De Noise was met with no explanation. In the interest of still representing and showcasing the work of the children who helped decorate the banner and drumhead, Fleur De Noise reached a compromise with CITY where the phrases "Fleur De Cure" & "Kicking Childhood Cancer To The Sidelines" would be redacted via tape in order to have the banner allowed in the stadium.

Fleur De Noise respectfully disagrees with the club's interpretation of this rule, as we believe that supporting a local cause at a local institution for young CITY fans directly aligns with CITY's stated mission and values and is consistent with banners and flags previously allowed at Energizer Park. Until now, Fleur De Noise has yet to comment on this situation, as we have hoped we could find a productive path forward with the club. Over the past 3 seasons, Fleur De Noise has had a strong working relationship with CITY, helping make Energizer Park one of the toughest environments in MLS. Live, Loud, and Local are the core tenets of Fleur De Noise, and charitable efforts for those in our community are core to our mission. In continued discussions with the club, they have committed a donation to our charity partner, and we appreciate their contribution. We have also asked if the team would be willing to commit to hosting a Childhood Cancer Awareness night in 2026; Fleur De Noise has yet to receive a formal response and is hopeful for a positive outcome. We still question the decision to disallow in-stadium display of the banner that was submitted. We firmly believe the banner is in line with all posted rules from Major League Soccer & is in line with the CITY fan code of conduct. For a team that claims they are about "more than just soccer," we see incongruity in that statement when there is a rule on the books that states it, in fact, "must only be about soccer."
