The Totenkopf Nazi skull is actually pretty distinctive and weird looking. I don't know why the SS chose such a creepy, shitty-looking design, but it's unmistakable.

My sense is that if Israel had governed the OPT anything like how Jordan did the WB (i.e. annexation and citizenship for all), they'd have encountered far less Palestinian resistance. Additionally, the Israeli occupation has gone on much longer (58 years) than the other two (19 years).

Didn't Jordan give all West Bank Palestinians citizenship? Didn't Egypt nominally control Gaza as some kind of Palestinian rump state? Didn't neither country try to colonize it's respective territory by settling its own citizens in exclusive fortified communities? Etc, etc

Funnily enough, when I was living in Montreal about 15 years ago, I saw an elderly man at the grocery store wearing a beret with a Nazi-style death's head on it. Real wtf moment.

I hope Platner takes the opportunity to reflect on his choices. I hope he redeems himself in some way. Buy he should really leave the race and go back to his regular job.

It reminds me of anti-fascist twitter circa 2022. We were all reading tea leaves and seeing obscure fascist-adjacent symbols in places where they didn't exist. It's cringe.

Platner is, unfortunately, a dumbass who should probably drop out of the race. But his tattoos are not subtle nor do they communicate hidden messages. This QAnon-style analysis needs to stop.

On the other hand, there were a lot of well-meaning leftists/liberals defending the explicitly far-right Azov Brigade in that same period because they thought the Nazi allegations were just Russian propaganda—they were, but Azov (as distinct from the regular Ukrainian forces) were basically Nazis.

On the subject of Ukrainian army patches, imo some online leftists went a little too far in scrutinizing them in 2022-23. Mainstream Ukrainian companies sell Valknut and Black Sun patches along with tons of other gear. Most soldiers don't know what they mean.

Still, a giant death's head tattoo should be disqualifying for holding public office, regardless of whether the candidate is actually a Nazi in their heart.

I suspect it is pretty common for guys in the military to get edgelord tattoos without considering their actual meaning. By the same token, a lot of Ukrainian soldiers walk around with Black Sun patches. Most likely we're looking at a case of "dumb guy thought it looked cool" imo.

This is pretty much my view. The protests are useful as a morale booster and a starting point for mobilization.

I wish I had a better way to articulate this observation.
