And he was right. Particularly when your clients aren’t paying you, they’re liable to think that they’re getting something less than full legal representation. The credentials help.

My first real job after law school was doing legal aid-type civil work. The idea of putting that stuff on my wall felt very pretentious so I didn’t do it. My boss, who had practiced law for 40 years by then, told me “Frame your stuff and hang it. Your clients want to know that you’re a real lawyer.”

At least on relatively straightforward issues, it’s always a great idea to delegate to a competent law student who can spend almost all of their time on it for a week or two.

I don’t practice in New York but I’m assuming that, like every jurisdiction I’ve practiced in, they do have unlimited challenges *for cause.* Ten is actually a lot of peremptories.
