Orlando must frustrated, both goals come from rebound scrambles where NYC was more alert and aggressive. They need to get Gordon Bombay in to show them how to clean up the trash in front of the net.

NYCFC vs ORL - 3/8/25

The light purple socks are a nice touch for the Lions. The color that looks best with purple is other purple, imo.

I can’t wait for NYC to play in a stadium that can fit an actual soccer pitch. So hard to watch.

DC vs SKC - 3/8/25

I don’t think these legacy these teams are very good. DC at least has the decency to maintain their original kit style.

Christian Benteke and Eric Thommy are very good.

Jared Stroud can still hit a nice early cross.

It’s weird when there are no clips from the last 30 minutes.

Atlanta is sort of a similar story to Austin: new coach with MLS experience, stripey jersey, big spend up front, lack of goals, one unconvincing win. Austin is playing better defense and spent its $22 million on two players instead of just the one.

I think both are playoff teams but we’ll see.

ATL vs RBNY - 3/8/25

I remain unconvinced by Brad Guzan in 2025.

If they do, it will probably have to do with Saba, who looks like their best player in everything I’ve seen.

RB started Julian Hall who is 16 years old and wears number 16.

And then a RothRocket of a goal by Paul, another Next Pro/USL level tweener who joust does the job when called upon.

The Morris goal was nice, the Roldan goal was weird.

I’m trying to not pass too much judgement on the CCC teams until they are clear of the extra matches.

The new Seattle kit is awesome.

Where does Seattle find these dudes? First goal scored on an incredible effort by Rienzi, who has 2 goals in six matches for Seattle the last two years, and zero goals in 27 appearances for the Next Pro Defiance in the last year.

CLB vs HOU - 3/8/25

I still love the purple Dynamo kit.

This Houston team reminds me a lot of when Austin has been bad recently. Empty possession and a bizarre defensive structure with a very messy press.

Columbus has ideas but a definite lack of talent compared to last year (obviously).

(I watch on YouTube instead of the Apple TV app because it’s so much faster to love from one to the next.)

I’ve been trying to watch the Full Match highlights of every MLS game this season. It really feels like I get a better sense of the league this way than watching Wrap-Up, even if it is a little too goal focused.

Austin FC kit thoughts: The design is solid, but it’s held back by the BAD adidas template. I’m a lot madder after seeing Miami’s kit, b/c:

1. It’s basically the same design in pink (not saying it’s a copy, just frustrating)

2. AUSTIN COULD’VE NEGATED THE TEMPLATE (I fixed it in photoshop, poorly)

Primary Chance Creators

I've seen a lot of talk in Austin FC media/fan spaces about need for a number 10, so I wanted to see what's worked in MLS recently. There's little correlation with just having a primary chance creator and "success." There's a lot of nuance beyond that.
