Great graphic showing cities on a triangle graph showing if they are most oriented to public transit, active mobility or cars.
Have you seen this? This recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips that are by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

To raise awareness of our recommendations for the Elections Bill we've sent a fake newspaper, The Misleading Times, packed full of dodgy bar charts and made up data to their desks in Westminster.

How long should it take to cross a junction?
In suburban London it can take a while, like crossing the junction of Christchurch Road and Merantum Way to walk between two neighbouring shopping centres. Is it acceptable to let pedestrians wait this long?

Same is true of bus stops, loading bays, taxi ranks, and a bunch of other parking restrictions.
I think it's only single and double yellow line that apply to the footway and verge in fact.

In 2024, more than 1,600 people died on UK roads. Yet a major new road safety strategy has passed largely unnoticed. This reflects media acceptance of road danger and a societal complacencyβan βit wonβt happen to meβ mindset. Sadly, it can, and by then it is too late. How do we change this?

A badly overgrown section of cycle path. Half the path is covered in vegetation. A cyclist is edging past slowly.
What the path looked like after the council had been to clear it. Not much different.
What the path looked like after we spent two hours clearing the path properly. You can see the edging of the path.
A man and a woman starting on the cleared path holding tools, looking tired but satisfied.
A section of cycle path on the Purple Pedalway had become badly overgrown. We asked Norfolk County Council to clear it but they only did half a job, so we spent two hours yesterday clearing back the vegetation properly.
It was hard work but satisfying. We shouldnβt need to do this.

Tax hikes loom as market town votes to take over car parks
Thetford Town council has taken a decisive step towards taking over its car parks, which could see locals pay more in council tax.
Ever wondered what it costs to provide free parking?
Thetford Town Council have decided to keep all car parks at an increase of Β£10-15 per year for every council tax payer in the town.
