Love to be antsy, restless, edgy, disquieted, restive. All the fretful feelings really.

On Wednesday, Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive, met with President Trump at the White House and agreed to give the federal government a 15 percent cut, essentially making the federal government a partner in Nvidia’s business in China, said the people familiar with the deal. The Commerce Department began granting licenses for A.I. chip sales two days later, these people said.

State capitalism? Unconstitutional export taxes? A straight up shakedown?

Whatever you call it, Ronald Reagan is rolling over in his fucking grave.

It's profoundly saddening to read that AP will no longer be assigning or running book reviews because readers don't engage with them enough and they take too much effort to plan and assign. People complain about critics as gatekeepers; wait until all that's left is marketing.

Trump ordered the relocation of former President Obama’s official White House portrait to a hidden staircase, out of view of visitors. This move contradicts White House protocol, which calls for recent presidential portraits to be prominently displayed.

D.C. mayor defends capital's crime rates after Trump threatens to take over police Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said President Trump has the power to deploy the National Guard, but "none of the conditions exist" for the president to take over the city's police.

Violent crime in DC is at a 30-year low but White House crime in DC is at an all-time high.

I am open to those who show genuine contrition - but ignorance and/or gaslighting- boy I dunno,

If one supported “what Trump claimed he was gonna do with immigration when he was campaigning” she or he was supporting this ↘️

To be clear, he’s saying conservatives are … “restaurantless” … because they themselves have chosen to avoid places they think are too “woke,” and they’ve expanded that definition to include a place literally called Cracker Barrel, and that’s all a sign that they are, once again, the Real Victims

Karl: The transformation has been gradual and unmistakable.

By February, some golden urns on the mantle.

April, gold adornments appear on the walls.

By July, it's gold everywhere.

Just this week more scaffolding popped up, even more new gold trim appeared.

usually if you ask experts why an empire fell they’ll say it’s nuanced and multifaceted, so i think it’s kind of cool that with America future historians will get to just say like “oh they took the idiot train to moronsville”

NYC shooter had two 'mental health holds' in Las Vegas. They didn't affect his legal right to own guns The New York City mass shooter had been diagnosed with multiple mental illnesses and had been the subject of two "mental health holds" in Las Vegas, but none of that limited his legal right to own firearms.

So good. My wife and I rewatched it a few years ago. I never appreciated Jack Soo’s deadpan-hipster enough. The seasons with both him and Landesberg are incredible. Harris is a much more interesting character than I remembered, too.

I had a friend years ago who got a cancer diagnosis, ultimately terminal. He told me that he knew he was totally fucked when he asked his doctor whether he should stop drinking or smoking, and the doctor clearly didn’t think it mattered one way or another. Sort of the same concept.

Yeah, it’s a testament to the scary power of his style. I’d put Flannery O’Connor in that same category: on one hand, her range is limited; on the other, her vision of the world is so fucking intense and haunting and well-wrought you forget everything that’s missing from it.

His list of those whom he calls the "good writers" --Melville, Dostoyevsky, Faulkner -- precludes anyone who doesn't "deal with issues of life and death." Proust and Henry James don't make the cut. "I don't understand them," he says. "To me, that's not literature. A lot of writers who are considered good I consider strange."

Key qualification: “think they live in.” I admire McCarthy’s ochre prose grottos, but his limitations become more apparent as I age. For example, his ldismissal of James & Proust: we see that entire dimensions of life, meaning, “reality” are invisible to him. But he’s so dazzling, we don’t notice.

I think these toxic, antisocial assholes (who can’t participate in healthy relationships) must create a world that reflects their garbage values, terrible judgements, and utter brokenness. It’s not just that we can’t have nice things; the nice things—love, sociability, kindness—are the problem.
