What is your favourite book? If I haven’t read it, I will read at least the first few pages

It’s The Wire, so definitely several memes. Contains frequent β€œshiiiiiiiiit”

Right but I’m always hungry for roast potatoes and bacon anyway

The show I’m watching has a disclaimer at the start of every episode that says β€œthis show contains strong and frequent language”. Call me some sort of professional word person but I’d have given that another draft.

Why are air fresheners always things like flowers or lemon and not the things I want to smell such as roast potatoes or bacon

Still, handy to know that a vote for @greenparty.org.uk is a vote for the gambling industry lobby, which makes a profit Β£14b a year. Ladbrokes do things like paying Β£1m to the victims of a thief who had a gambling addiction in return for not being reported to the gambling commission. Cool, cool.

Does @greenparty.org.uk have even the faintest idea how much hardship is caused by and how many suicides are linked to gambling? Extraordinarily irresponsible

Yep. I’ve seen some awful cases of it being the one lesson that kid takes in and simply stops trying. At least these days those same type kids will (hopefully) be assessed for neurodivergence but it really can ruin lives. But I also see how it happens, teaching is one of the hardest jobs there is.

01.02.2026 10:48 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The extremely sad thing is that some kids will simply believe them. It can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. It’s meant to be a motivator to change behaviour but can be the worst of own goals, particularly if the kid doesn’t have a supportive home environment.

01.02.2026 10:46 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

One of the main points of school is to prepare a child for a career and later life so of course some teachers will use that as a threat when exasperated
