Trump has publicly mulled about appointing himself Fed Chair. Asked Tuesday if that's possible, Powell didn't take a stand, but the Federal Reserve Act appears to. Fed Board members, the act says, "shall devote their entire time to the business of the Board." hat tip @hpschneider.bsky.social

Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker told my colleague @michaelsderby.bsky.social he's concerned the Fed is flying "half blind" as the quality of economic data declines. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says a staffing shortage forced it to reduce its data collection for a key inflation report.

Wells Fargo escapes Fed's asset cap after seven years, able to pursue growth
Wells Fargo was released from a punitive, seven-year-long $1.95 trillion cap on its assets on Tuesday after the U.S. Federal Reserve lifted the regulatory measure, allowing the bank to pursue unimpeded growth.
