I’m sure there’s plenty of overcooked veg in most countries in the world if you look, that doesn’t make it the norm. I live here now, I know what to expect from the food I’m served. I don’t expect overcooked veg.

She might just have been bad at cooking.

This hasn’t been the norm in British cooking for decades.

Yep, I’d absolutely hate working there.

How on earth could the admin know if it’s true or not?

The person who runs the account isn’t anonymous and repeating a libel is still considered libel.

It’s rare to see a paywall that doesn’t offer at least some free access per month.

I thought the person that I was replying to was suggesting a token to remove ads, maybe I misread it.

Either way, the token for access thing will never happen. It just doesn’t make sense for publishers.

I know, but the point is that a paid token to remove ads is competing with tools that remove ads for free, so it’s unlikely that many people who are bothered by ads would even see them in the first place. You’re probably better off with just a digital tip jar.

The subscription model doesn’t. Why would anyone subscribe to an outlet that they think publishes clickbait?

07.03.2024 08:11 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Multi subs may have more legs if news orgs are able to agree to something like that.

As I say, pay per view is a complete non-starter, too little to gain and too much to lose in potential subscriptions. Plus, a PPV model would encourage writing clickbait articles. To convince someone to sign up to a sub, they have to trust that you’ll put out worthwhile stories.

Adblockers are free.

I expect that the vast majority of adverts that appear on spam sites do so with no knowledge from the advertiser that that’s where their ads are being placed.

That’s not happening. Some publishers did experiment with micropayments for article access years ago, they all gave up on it. One person signing up for a subscription is probably worth at least 400 people paying 25c to read an article, and providing articles for 25c will undercut your subscriptions.

I just stick them in the fridge and forget about them until I want to use them. I can’t remember the last time I cracked an egg and it was off, I don’t think it’s happened to me since I was a child.

I don’t think they’ll make much from selling your data seeing as it’s pretty much all held publicly.

We’ve currently got a millennial PM here in the UK and it’s not going great. Although, our previous PM was Gen X and she crashed the economy within about 15 seconds of trying to do anything. Maybe we should give a zoomer a shot.

I’m a small-r republican, and generally oppose our monarchy here in the UK, but one point I read gave me pause: that splitting the ceremonial and diplomatic functions of being head of state from the political ones does offer benefits.

If Sunak’s performances at PMQs can be considered an artform, my two year old niece’s efforts at colouring in must put her on a par with Picasso.
