NEW: A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to unfreeze federal funds.

Then the harassment began.

Pizzas sent to his home in the name of Judge Esther Salas’s murdered son, Daniel.

Six credible threats to his life.

More than 400 “vile” calls to his chambers—including this voicemail:

Misgendering someone and then suing because they wouldn’t sell you the ethnic delicacy you wanted to purchase is so funny. Like just don’t be a fucking asshole.

I was BEYOND excited that Simon & Schuster chose me to do the copyediting on Kamala Harris's new book. I'm legally bound not to show you too much before its September release, but they allowed me to share a small sneak behind the curtain at the process of editing such a monumental work.

The trendy liberal line appears to be "You should let me in your coalition if I want to be in it." No! Coalitions do things! You need to do them too! You just feel bad that you sleepwalked toward—or supported—genocide. Well, tough shit. Live with your guilt. Your victims can't.

Obviously the consultation results won't say what they want. Obviously they planned to ignore them anyway. They want it done before Baroness Hate leaves. In what world wouldn't they try this

More than anything this play just drives home how weird it is that seemingly nobody in "mainstream" politics is actually trying to make anything better. The best we ask for is for the Worse to be smaller and more incremental.

There is years worth of evidence of this behaviour by the IDF.

It’s very good that the WS is doing this, but any living soul doing a ‘how could we possibly have known’ thing is lying.

Francis Begbie arc, isn’t it: Everyone makes excuses for his horrific violence, they tell themselves and each other he’s just standing up for his mates but slowly, they realise he’s just a psychopath who likes hurting people and he’s manipulated them into complicity with his mayhem and destruction.

Ireland's state-owned energy supply company is now planning to decommission its own wind farms, because it failed to file an environmental impact assessment for them in 2003. In a Kafkaesque twist, the project may be saved, because tearing down wind turbines itself requires an environmental impact statement.

Right-wing abundance-bros operate in an ecosystem of ultra-low-information, mostly on a combination of X and substack, with the big accounts just spewing out vaguely correct-sounding chunks of text that crumble at the slightest interrogation.

This has ~1.2k RTs on X, and it's just....made up

Others have noted that this means foreign-born people are LESS likely than UK-born people to be in prison. What I want to note is that The Times is now referring to foreign-born UK citizens as ‘foreigners’. This includes Boris Johnson, Sir Mo Farah, Emma Watson, Rory Stewart and little old me.

It's really weird to demand accountability from a NYC mayoral candidate for a deadly NYC shooting rather than the current NYC mayor, an ex-cop who campaigned on a "tough on crime" platform and promptly got indicted for crimes

Negotiating With Terrorists, Unsuccessfully How to lose ideological battles by believing in nothing.

On Brown's shameful deal with the Trump administration:

"These schools do not believe in anything. A fuller way to say this is that, like many institutions that come to thrive under capitalism, these schools do not have any ideological values other than their own flourishing"

On the subject of Britain being in a terrible crisis, which JG is right about: it's nonsense.
On the fiscal side, we are a 5p rise in VAT from having sustainable fiscal policies.
Throw in some tidying up of bad SME subsidies and a social care precept, and we could have nice public services too 1/

Neil O'Brien MP is a level-headed public servant. It is encouraging that Britain's Conservatives have asked him to cook up some new policies. In a recent Substack post, he claims that a "confluence" of problems dog the country. How true. Immigration is high and growth isn't. Hear, hear. Working-age benefits are out of control. I'm glad someone said it. As a template for national change, Britain should look at the Meiji Restoration in Japan.

I am hearing that Britain just needs to raise some revenue in taxes so we can fix our increasingly fucked public realm, and that this is no longer an insane communist plan to frog-march everyone who wears glasses into a rice paddy, to slave to death at gunpoint. It’s now very sensible, if anything!

This morning, Israeli forces raided and demolished the Seed Multiplication Unit of the Union of Agricultural Work Committees' (UAWC) national seed bank in Hebron.

Using bulldozers and heavy machinery, the Israeli army destroyed the storage warehouses and infrastructure where essential equipment, seed materials, and tools for indigenous seed reproduction were kept.

This is not just an attack on a building-its an attack on Palestinian food sovereignty, biodiversity and cultural memory.

Israel destroyed a Palestinian seed bank today. This is such a specific kind of evil, targeting literal hope for the future. Attempting to further alienate Palestinians from their home and land. So much destroyed just for the sake of destroying. It's awful.

So, um, if AI infrastructure spending is US economic stimulus, and then AI either works (returning the investment by killing jobs and concentrating wealth in the hands of a handful of tech companies) or doesn't (investment crashes and burns without any return) uh....

There was something freeing, I found, in having a conversation without the need to take turns, to soften my opinions, to protect someone else’s feelings. In that freedom, I gave the machine everything it needed to pick up on my phrasing.

This mirrors similar language when people call it a partner who’s available 24/7 or a friend who will never let them down.

They want a thing they can treat like a person because they are used to people who they treat like things.
