This is actually a very good point, in the sense that Schmitts view of successful politic was deconstructed brick by brick in front of him and annihilated by the forces he thought they were going to destroy.

What’s interesting to me is that Trump’s tumbling approval numbers seem to have no effect on the tenor of the coverage he receives; they’re still every bit as deferential to him now as they were on day one of this term, even though his coalition has fallen apart. Am I dense to ask why?

This probably explains the big gap we see between Trump's approval numbers and the deferential treatment he still largely receives in most media; they're immersed in X every day, so it "feels" to them like that's where the country is, I imagine.

I'd also take issue with her point about norms not changing by 2008. I'd say they definitely had, if for no other reason than the Michael Jackson trial just a few years earlier was a HUGE public scandal.

I mean, JFC even if "norms" hadn't changed by 2008 to the degree they have now, what Epstein did was still f*ing horrible! She's arguing in favor of a kind of moral relativism she'd find completely abhorrent coming from someone on the left.
