I think they do it in Hockey World Cup tournaments. Even if you can't read the name in that language, if you still know who it is (their number helps with that) you would quickly associate the word/letters with the player. Maybe they'll do it during the Olympics in February.

This is great. I'm a sucker for languages and I love seeing names in their original language. They should do this in pro sports leagues, especially the NHL for me.

Speculation, sensationalism, and suspect nonsense make profit go up. Hype up nonsense to sell ads = more revenue.

Yes. We are being deprived of fact based information at the expense of suggestive, improbable nonsense in its place. One could argue that the degradation of the original cable tv specialty channels paved the way to the corrosive misinformation environment we now see online.

And, might I add, even if it wasn't for you it was informative and educational. Most channels now have about 10-15% in that catefory. The rest is all conspiracy theory dreck.

Absolutely. There was a time when you could tune into any of these specialty channels and find interesting content. It may not have been for you, particularly at the time, but it was relevant to the channel.

The History Channel showing gold prospectors or whatever is not that. We have been robbed.

This particular episode has some poor archeologist cunt wandering the expanse of some isolated British area near Yorkshire (maybe)? Looking for Vampires? I'm not sure. My guess is there's a perfectly reasonable scientific and historic explanation for this 'mystery'. We shall see!

The only redeeming quality of programs on Science Channel called, like, "What on Earth?" are:
1. Kind of like a travel show, since 'weird' shit happens around the Earth
2. The soothing and somewhat measured tone of the narrator, regardless of how fucked up the subject is and how it's misrepresented.

I came home tonight to learn that one of my two fluffy, beautiful cats had destroyed a lampshade. And if I could go back in time to learn which one was the culprit I'd be happy. Turns out, I've been needing an excuse to dump that lampshade (and entire lamp, frankly) for a couple of decades. HUGS!

This all seems to have been designed for quick-hit video clips on TikTok. No one can sit through an entire NBA game with that disruptive of a court design and graphic. It's horrendous.

The only reasonable conclusion is that they know this and know that most ppl are only watching 10-15 second clips.

So, that's what I mean by the players being pushed out. And, don't get me wrong, the NBA is THE league that needs individual players to take a step back the most. Too few players on the court, too many players wanting to be 'The Guy'. It won't work, not enough room.

I have no idea what's happening in the quoted post I chose. Are team members upset that a guy on the court missed a shot? Maybe. I don't know. Because I can barely focus on the actual fucking players and all I can see is an eye-searing neon green court with hideous trophy logos all over it. Nothing.

I'm not a Sports Purity scold. Far from it, really. I'm just having a hard time figuring out what's going on with these in-season NBA Cup games or whatever the fuck they are. I understand the need to make them stand out - but some of the shit I've seen here and on local Boston news is fucked up.

I don't follow the NBA, so I don't know how fans feel about these NBA Tournament courts. Can the players see them? Can only TV viewers see them? I don't understand what's going on here or what's real or not.

However, what I think is happening is the players are being pushed out as less important.
